"Okay, I got it," He Teng nodded, "I’m here, you guys go back first, Ya’nan, you go back to your classes too."
Once everyone left, the hospital room felt empty. Hearing from Chen Ya’nan that He Zhilan had fainted from exhaustion truly made He Teng’s heart ache.
In just half a month, her palm-sized face had turned so pale, even the few pots of flowers and plants in his dormitory seemed more alive than she did.
He Zhilan didn’t wake up for quite some time. He Teng sat by her side for a while, and then suddenly stood up and left the room, a very serious expression on his face. Whenever he made a decision in his heart, that’s how he would look.
It took nearly an hour before He Teng returned. When he came back, he had brought some food with him. However, that night, he never managed to wake He Zhilan. It wasn’t until the next morning that He Zhilan slowly regained consciousness.
Seeing He Teng busy with something on the other side, He Zhilan rubbed her eyes and blinked hard to make sure she wasn’t seeing things and then called out to him, "Why are you here?"
"Where do you think here is?" He Teng looked back at He Zhilan when he heard her voice.
"My dormitory... Ah~"
The last "Ah" stuck in He Zhilan’s throat as she glanced around the room and realized she was in the hospital. This triggered the memory that she seemed to have fainted during class the day before.
"Remember now?" He Teng knew from the quick changes in He Zhilan’s expression that she had remembered fainting the day before, "Drink some water first when you get up, then have something to eat. I’ve had your colleague pack your things, they’re all in the car. We’ll handle the discharge in a bit, then head back to the military base for a few days of rest."
He Zhilan nodded and got out of bed, feeling much better than the day before.
After eating something nearby, He Zhilan went back to the military base with He Teng. Initially, He Zhilan thought He Teng had only brought some of her clothes, but upon arrival at the base and seeing what He Teng took out of the back of the car, she was dumbfounded.
"Brother, did you move all my things from the school dormitory to the military base?" He Zhilan exclaimed, and then laughed, "Brother, have you decided you want to remarry me and have me move into the base to live with you?"
He Teng paused in his unpacking and glanced at He Zhilan, "I’ve resigned your job at the school for you. Rest here for two days, then you’ll go back to the capital."
He Zhilan thought she had misheard. "Brother, on what grounds! My job is mine, who are you to resign on my behalf? Did you ask for my consent?"
"I’m your brother, why can’t I make a decision for you?" He Teng didn’t pay attention to He Zhilan’s annoyance, moving all her belongings upstairs to her room. Even knowing she was annoyed behind him, he didn’t offer an explanation.
He’d been to the school and understood that He Zhilan’s job was really hard, and that’s why he had decisively resigned on her behalf, so she could rest properly.
As for the school’s students, He Teng couldn’t care less, whether they missed their English classes or whatever else, he only cared about He Zhilan. He didn’t want her to stay at the school and suffer.
To think that she had fainted straight away in the classroom, He Teng didn’t even know how to describe the feelings he had when he received the call the day before, wishing he could drive the car at the speed of an airplane, just worried that something unforeseen might happen to He Zhilan.
