He Zhilan is rather cold in disposition, it’s difficult for her to warm up to someone this quickly. Although she can’t be like Lin Chan, she knows that Lin Chan means her no harm.
"Damn it, what the hell is happening up front that’s causing this traffic jam!" Lin Chan had already turned the car into a small street. The street wasn’t large, however for reasons unknown, there was a jam. Lin Chan honked the horn twice, completely out of patience.
"You stay here, don’t get off, I will go check out what’s happening up front, I swear to God I will kill the idiots causing this mess!" Lin Chan spoke, before opening the car door and storming off.
He Zhilan was taken aback, did Lin Chan really trust her that much?
Lowering the car window, the noise from the front entered He Zhilan’s ears. Having listened for a bit, He Zhilan guessed that it was probably due to a collision between two cars up front that led to an argument. Lin Chan strode over and began scolding them immediately.
Lin Chan didn’t use coarse language when cursing people. He didn’t resort to obscenities or insults about one’s ancestors, unlike street thugs. His style was more about the attitude, with a strong capital city accent, and occasional use of local dialects. Even though Zhilan couldn’t clearly see Chan’s expression when he was berating people, she could imagine it must’ve been terrifying, or else the two arguing people wouldn’t have promptly returned to their cars and quickly moved them out of the way.
"You two damn tadpoles! If I don’t yell at you, you think you can start acting like toads hopping everywhere! You can’t even drive properly!" Lin Chan returned to the car, slamming the door shut in anger.
About fifteen minutes later, the car turned off the small street into Bluestone Alley, finally stopping at the entrance of a siheyuan (courtyard house). It was here that Lin Chan allowed He Zhilan to get out of the car.
"This place is a private dining restaurant that my friend and I have put together. Let’s go in, I’ll treat you to some of the local specialties of the capital city! Not to brag, but if you want to get Private Kitchen-Delights, this is the most authentic place to be. This place is not accessible to just anyone!"
He Zhilan curved her lips into a smile. Actually, by looking at the parked cars at the entrance, she could already tell that the ones who could enter were no ordinary people.
"I started this place with a friend back in college. We had to put in a lot of effort to win over the two head chefs from another competitor. We clinched one through a race and won the other over by winning a fight, which ultimately left me in the hospital for a week." Lin Chan told his embarrassing story with no cover, instead, he seemed to be rather proud of it.
"Oh, young master Chan, you’re flaunting about events from hundreds of years ago. You did win a fight, but ended up hospitalized for a week afterward, you’re bragging about the wrong part here! You’re an elite from a prestigious family! Your own father said he was embarrassed for you!"
As soon as Lin Chan finished speaking, a man smoking in the veranda next to the wooden beam stepped forward to mock him.
"Quit your nonsense, this isn’t some random girl, it’s my friend He Zhilan! Watch your mouth!" Lin Chan gave the man a dirty look before leading Zhilan past him and into the room next door.
"Oh my, the elusive Mr. Lin Chan has finally decided to grace us with his presence? We were waiting for you!"
