Starting as a Manga Editor Chapter 184

Soon enough, Ji Fuliang’s company, SeasonTech, launched a large-scale promotional campaign for their anime-style mobile game, Revelation of the Dark Night.

Not long ago, thanks to FGO’s massive success, many major game studios had started paying attention to the mobile game space and began teasing upcoming projects.

But even those major studios… most of them had only released trailers so far.

Very few had actually finished development.

That game Lin Shuang invested in? After its beta test, the numbers were so bad it had to be scrapped and reworked from scratch.

And even fewer players actually participated in that beta—let alone discussed it.

So from the second half of last year up till now, FGO had basically ruled the mobile game scene solo.

Now though, with Revelation of the Dark Night ramping up promotions—and with it being tied to Rumi’s Into the Night—it immediately drew a lot of attention.

After all, the latest FGO content had already been mostly consumed by players.

And the new event hadn’t launched yet.

A lot of hardcore players had started grinding fodder materials again.

Sure, at this stage, many players were still happy to level up their favorite Servants—

But the thing is, FGO’s story was so good that many missed the thrill of playing while immersed in a gripping narrative.

They were ready—maybe even hoping—for a new anime-style game to play.

And right then, Revelation of the Dark Night entered their field of vision—the official adaptation of the wildly popular Into the Night! Coming soon!

With marketing lines like that—

How were core anime fans supposed to resist?

Unlike Tang Yao’s past life, where players were burned by endless reskin cash grabs—

These players were still new to mobile gaming.

They’d been eating scraps since day one.

They thought about Rumi’s Into the Night—what a masterpiece that was!

Adapting something so incredible into a game? It had to be good, right?

And that’s not even counting Rumi’s massive reader base.

Many of them also played FGO, and hearing that their favorite mangaka’s work was getting turned into a mobile game—of course they’d be interested.

Sure enough—

Within just two days—

Revelation of the Dark Night became a buzzword in anime circles. Their brand-new official accounts saw follower counts spike like crazy.

And that’s when the game’s developers started dropping hints—

Saying that apart from their official adaptation, another anime game company was working on a thematic crossover banner recently… which was clearly just a reskinned version of an old banner, disguised under a veil of mystery. Only they had the true adaptation.

They didn’t name names—

But players weren’t dumb. Between ANF’s vague, cryptic promo page and these comments from the Revelation of the Dark Night team…

They put two and two together.

This was about Avalon, right?

They just happened to be teasing an FGO x manga crossover too.

So naturally—

The news spread like wildfire.

In less than a day—

Every ANF user knew the manga FGO was crossing over with was Into the Night.

And that promo page’s shadowy figure? Clearly the female lead from Into the Night!

At the bottom of the page—

User comments flooded in:

“Seriously, what’s with the secrecy? Just say it’s a Into the Night collab already!”

“I thought it was something new, but turns out it’s Into the Night. Not a bad pick, but is it really just a reskin of an old banner?”

“So much for mystery. 🤷‍♂️”

“Well this is awkward. Got exposed by someone else.”

“This genre overlap really isn’t a problem? They’re doing a full adaptation and you’re just tossing out a collab banner… Doesn’t feel nearly as compelling.”

These kinds of comments kept popping up—clear and eye-catching.

At Avalon.

Tang Yao took a deep breath, her chest subtly rising and falling. She wasn’t sure whether to be angry or not—it felt petty to care, but also hard to ignore.

“This really is… a disaster out of nowhere.”

Li Xue stood beside her, also looking upset. “Is Revelation of the Dark Night’s developer retaliating?”

“Hard to say.”

Tang Yao lowered her hand and shook her head. “Not sure what Rumi’s mom has to say about it… Honestly, if we’d just promoted earlier, none of this would’ve happened. But she refused, and now look—we’ve been exposed by someone else and lost the upper hand.”

Truth be told, early promotion would’ve made things so much simpler.

A direct announcement about FGO’s collab with Into the Night? That would’ve made waves.

But Rumi’s mother didn’t want Chainsaw Man to steal the spotlight from the collab event.

Now look—someone else blew the lid off, and players now assume Avalon was being mysterious just to repackage an old banner under a new name…

Sure, the impact… probably wouldn’t be huge.

After all, Revelation of the Dark Night was a poor-quality game. That’s not something a few lines about being “the official adaptation” could change.

And the FGO collab?

It was built to the same standard as the main storyline—fully fleshed out.

Still… it was annoying.

“I’ll reach out to them again.”

Li Xue thought for a second and said, “Let’s start a proper promo rollout ASAP… But is it too late now? They’re calling our collab just a lazy reskin…”

“It’s not.”

Tang Yao gently shook her head. “Just a small problem. I can fix it.

Honestly, I let it slide because I didn’t think it was urgent. If she keeps stalling, I’ll step in myself.”

“She’s stubborn—you might not be able to change her mind…”

Li Xue shook her head, but seeing Tang Yao’s confident expression, she felt reassured.

“Oh right—how’s Chainsaw Man doing?”

Tang Yao suddenly asked.

“…”

Li Xue’s expression turned a little strange. After a moment, she replied softly, “It’s doing great… really great. I think with the next two updates, it’s almost guaranteed to become the flagship series of ANF’s manga section.”

Meanwhile.

Guan Fang had also found out.

She stared at her computer screen, face twisted. She had not expected this to blow up like this…

“See? Tried to be clever and ended up losing both ways.”

Rumi sat behind her, voice cool and calm. “I told you to say yes to Avalon. Not to play little mind games. If you’d let them promote earlier, none of this would’ve happened. You think Avalon’s afraid of some no-name studio in a face-off?

Now look—your investor’s mad at you, the collab is flopping, and what should’ve been a win-win might end up a lose-lose. They outed the FGO x Into the Night collab first and called the whole thing a reskinned cash grab. After all that effort you and Avalon put into building a proper collab event…

Now thanks to preconceived bias, if players don’t spend money…

You really think you’re getting a cut of millions? Keep dreaming.”

“…Stupid!”

Guan Fang snapped back, though her tone carried some regret. Still, for the sake of pride, she shot back at her daughter:

“How is this my fault? Isn’t this Avalon’s fault for rushing out that vague promo page?”

“…”

Rumi was so mad she laughed. “Didn’t you say you didn’t want Chainsaw Man stealing the spotlight? Avalon told you—they’ve got another game launching soon. The FGO collab can’t be delayed forever!”

Guan Fang argued, “I was doing it for you! You’re so ungrateful!”

“…”

Rumi took a deep breath and didn’t want to argue anymore. “Just let Avalon handle it now. Don’t meddle in things you don’t understand. You saw how well Chainsaw Man’s last two chapters performed—the manga’s more popular than ever! Stop worrying about whether it’s stealing attention from the collab event!”

“…No.”

Guan Fang’s expression wavered. But after a moment, she clenched her jaw and declared:

“One more week. Let’s see how this week’s updates go! I bet the story collapses this week!”
