Starting to Gain Experience from Push-Ups Chapter 2

Outside the car window, the city's night view was like flowing lights.

Fang Cheng leaned against the cold backrest of the bus seat.

His pupils also flickered with a strange light.

Right in front of him, a pale blue screen unfolded slowly.

Yet, the passenger sitting next to him noticed nothing unusual.

Fang Cheng is a transmigrator.

Strictly speaking, it's reincarnation, and he only awakened his innate wisdom two months ago.

This panel, similar to a game character's, naturally appeared as memories from his past life resurfaced.

Like a virtual brain in science fiction novels, it appeared as a semi-transparent screen, visible only to the host himself.

Fang Cheng called it the "Life Game Experience Panel".

After some time exploring and practicing, he roughly understood its mechanics.

As long as he wholeheartedly immersed himself in something, there was a chance to unlock a skill slot on the panel.

The likelihood of unlocking depended on the basic mastery of the task—the more skilled, the greater the chance.

Then, by continuously practicing the relevant skills, he could keep gaining experience to upgrade.

Each upgrade of a skill could bring special enhancement rewards.

Such as related attribute points, or skill effects...

So far, the greatest benefit the Golden Finger had given to Fang Cheng was reigniting his passion for learning.

Even more diligent and disciplined than during his school days.

Through over a month's self-study for postgraduate examinations, Fang Cheng successively unlocked the skills "Speed Reading" and "Concentration".

In everyday life, he also unlocked the "Cooking Skill".

After changing to a part-time job, he deliberately found work at a boxing club.

Partly for safety reasons, wanting some self-defense skills for free, and partly to validate his thoughts.

Besides academic and life skills, he wondered if he could unlock other types of skills.

Indeed, Fang Cheng's thoughts were proven correct.

"One actual combat earns 20 experience points."

"Much more efficient compared to practicing alone..."

Fang Cheng's eyes flickered slightly as he closed the panel.

His gaze then fell on his right hand knuckles, skinned and bleeding.

This was caused by punching a drunkard's skull.

Force is transmitted through impact; hitting someone also meant incurring some damage.

That's why boxers usually wear gloves during training primarily to reduce injury risks.

Fang Cheng rubbed his slightly sore wrist joint.

"My body is still too vulnerable..."

Upgrading the skills "Speed Reading" and "Concentration" total granted him 5 attribute points.

Unfortunately, due to the very nature of those skills, he could only add them to his Spirit Attribute.

Being a mentally filled bookworm is imaginable.

Strengthening and conditioning the body to become muscular and robust through reading and writing is not realistic.

Otherwise, he could consider first improving his Constitution.

Fang Cheng took a deep breath, gradually calming his wildly beating heart.

Being a homebody for two lifetimes, it was his first time legitimately fighting and overcoming an opponent.

His emotions were inevitably excited, which also added some inexplicable confidence to him.

"Old Factory Street has arrived, please take your belongings and alight from the back door, be careful when getting off..."

The bus stop announcement sounded.

Fang Cheng picked up his shoulder bag and stepped off the bus.

He looked up at the sparse street lamps around, the environment filled with heaps of trash.

He then stepped across the street and entered an even narrower and darker alley.

The houses on both sides were dilapidated, with messy electrical wires, very tightly packed together.

Improvised sheds and small ads selling various counterfeit goods and contraband were visible everywhere.

This street was called Old Factory Street, with most of the surrounding buildings rebuilt in the early post-war period.

Fifty years of peace led to rapid economic development and vigorous societal progress across the country.

A massive influx of population into East Capital, a political and economic hub, caused severe housing resource tensions.

This old district of Jiangbei became an ideal dwelling place for many migrant workers and low-income groups due to the old facilities and relatively low rents.

Fang Cheng stopped in front of a red-brick tubular building.

Downstairs in the corridor, it was already filled with bicycles and electric scooters returning from work, almost blocking the path.

Windows of the nine-story building alternated between light and dark, with occasional cries of children and the sounds of housewives cooking with pans.

Fang Cheng walked up the stairs, which were missing some light bulbs, step by step.

Until he reached the top floor, he found a few iron basins placed in the corridor.

The basins had sparks and unburnt paper ash emitting black smoke.

Most households here installed iron security gates.

Old-fashioned push-pull folding doors with several iron rods connecting them top to bottom.

In the summer, if residents were home, they usually opened the inner door but left the iron grill closed for ventilation.

But few did this in winter.

In the evenings, the closed corridors lacked light and always seemed gloomy.

Fang Cheng glanced around in confusion, took out keys from his pocket, and walked towards his own door.

Suddenly, the only household emitting light next door made the sound of an iron grill sliding open.

A plump middle-aged woman poked her head out, waved, and called:

"Ah Cheng, wait a moment."

It seemed she had been waiting a long time and then turned to shout back into the house:

"Xiu Mei, quickly bring over the paper money and paper clothes prepared on the table!"
