Steampunk Era: Mad Abield Chapter 727

Arriving back at Carterburg, all dusty and weary from the road, Malin had already heard the news of his father’s redemption. Feeling greatly relieved, Malin didn’t rush to see his father first but went to Rongma to bring over his lovers.

The old Gaiate’s achievement of Legendary status had already spread throughout the entire Western Human World these past couple of days. For the Gaiates, boasting three Legends, this was nothing short of a miracle—and indeed it was. Many outsiders didn’t know that without the Lord of Justice, the old man’s fate would have been uncertain.

But as a Legend, Gaiate’s canonization after death was an undeniable fact (he was a devout believer of the Church of the Goddess of Harvest), and that was indeed the case, so his...

Today, Malin took his family to visit his elderly father, both to show concern and because if it had not been for the God of Justice, they wouldn’t have had the chance to play the roles of filial son and caring father. By the time Malin had returned from the North two days later, his father would have been Purified.

There’s no doubt that the man who still had the face of an octopus, who had lived through a direct confrontation with the Evil God, was impressive. Malin’s father might have been a Legend, but even in his altered state, he wasn’t powerful enough to face the opponent. Malin felt that if there had been a fight, it wouldn’t have been merely a slim chance of survival for his father; he would have surely died.

For this reason, Malin felt he owed the God of Justice a favor. Even though he knew that this deity had protected Miss Sophia’s soul a long time ago (which implied that the Deity had foreseen this day from early on and deemed Gaiate beneficial to the human world, thus intervening), but... after all, it was he who had preserved Miss Sophia’s soul, allowing her to reunite with the old Gaiate at the crucial moment.

He had saved another soul from going astray, such a deity. After learning that he was a deity from another dimension summoned by a survivor of the Great Destruction Era, all of Malin’s previous views and thoughts had been thrown out the window... This must be the most beautiful and pure Good God there ever was, Malin thought.

No wonder he was desperate to summon him. If there were more gods like him, Malin wouldn’t mind believing in them. After all, they were much better than the gods Malin knew of.

Think about it, a god who doesn’t toss you into hell just because you don’t worship him, a god who saves the world without asking for anything in return—what’s there to complain about?

It’s not about cozying up to power, at the very least, you should show respect.

Bringing his family to their old home, Malin knocked on the door. When no one opened it, he opened a hidden compartment by the door and took out the key—just like before, his father always kept a spare key there, in case he or Maya forgot theirs and needed to use it.

Pushing open the door, the furniture was arranged just as before. Carrying several large bags of ingredients, Malin entered the kitchen and began preparing dinner with the girls.

"I’ll peel the potatoes," said Matilda as she took up a knife and began her struggle with the potatoes.

Jessica placed a large slab of Saro beast rib meat on the cutting board to work on. Tonight, Malin was going to make sweet and sour meat, Jessica’s favorite.

Faye and Nova discussed whether to make a big bowl of stewed eggs tonight or coat the mixture of meat and potatoes in egg and fry it into patties.

Clovis dealt with her favorite carrots, while Rewo peeled the shell of fruits from a Semi-Plane.

Lillim helped Malin gather the freshly cut vegetable leaves and handed them to Maya, who was boiling water. The first dish of the day would be the old Gaiate’s favorite, a meat stew with vegetables.

Malin picked up a chunk of Saro beast hind leg and began to prepare it for braising as a delicious red-cooked trotter.

"I wonder where father could have gone," Maya said from the sidelines.

"He should be back before dinner," Malin replied—these past two days, the old man must have been extremely happy. Going out was good for him. When he returned in the evening, he would surely be surprised.

Observing the ongoing construction of the third wall of Carterburg, Aemet Selkirk was utterly despondent—why should he deal with his elder brother’s affairs? That old man even pretended to fall ill, and it was shameful for him, a perfect Knight, to feign sickness. And his sister-in-law too, a being of Sequence level two of the Gospel, dared to claim she fell ill from overwork caring for her seriously sick husband. Come on, you are immune to overwork at your Sequence level, what sickness could it have been... The Quasar family has truly lost face because of them!

Moreover, it was shameless of his elder brother to ask someone to seek him out to deal with Elsa’s affairs.

Aemet Selkirk had said it countless times—do not drag him into the mess they had created. Yet, as soon as that Wallace kid showed up, they eagerly played matchmaker... come on, the lovebirds aren’t idiots; if you go about it so brazenly, aren’t you afraid the two youngsters would take off?

In Aemet Selkirk’s view, the two kids had already sensed there was a problem, but he didn’t know what they were thinking now.

If they thought about old grudges from the family elders, they would be at the first layer.

If they thought about new grievances from the family elders, they should be at the second layer.
