Steampunk Era: Mad Abield Chapter 834

For some reason, this child gave one the illusion of seeing someone familiar.

This shouldn’t be the case. It was clearly their first meeting, so how could such a feeling exist? Between him and her... it was as if they had known each other for ten thousand years.

Malin tried hard to recall, but to no avail. He wanted to remember something about the child, but he found that there was almost no chance for them to have known each other.

Except for last time, when he had some contact with these children at Duke Brice’s.

But according to the information, this child had just entered the orphanage this year—her incurable disease ultimately made it impossible for her family to bear, and she was abandoned.

The Goddess of Fate really is a cruel bitch.

Malin muttered under his breath while he took a detour back home.

Father Gaiate always says he will rest at home, but his loves for excitement and joining the crowd meant that he can never really settle down.

Like today, he was not at home. Asking the neighbors nearby, they said that different kinds had appeared in the nearby villages and towns. He took several young Demon Hunters to assist, saying it was to guide the younger peers—as a Legendary Demon Hunter, he had enough strength. As long as Carterburg does not face a legion-level Chaos invasion, it is no big deal if dozens or even hundreds of different kinds invade. Malin’s factory guard and the Nobles’ Transcendent can handle it well.

Malin left a note for his father and then went to see Clovis—the only girl in the family who was pregnant and still running about. She seemed to be up to something in her Mage Tower, and Malin felt somewhat bewildered as he pushed the door open.

Her father recently suffered a stroke and was receiving treatment at the Benevolent Church’s hospital. With brain issues, even the World Tree’s medicine can only do so much, not to mention that no one found the old man when he had the stroke. He was left lying in his own Mage Tower for half a day before being found by Mage Tower members who realized he hadn’t shown up for work.

It was already a blessing he was not dead.

So, Clovis must have redecorated the Mage Tower herself. When Malin pushed the door open, it felt as though he had returned to the foggy Carterburg.

Glancing at the food on the table, thankfully, this was not that world. There were various foods that Clovis liked, along with Fafa.

The scorpion only dashed out of its hideout when Malin pushed the door open, ready to attack the intruder. Realizing it was its master’s beloved, the Magic Pet then scurried back under the table—judging by its somewhat hurried steps, it was more because of Salis on Malin’s shoulder.

Letting his own bird fly to the climbing frame, Malin called out Clovis’s name, and immediately heard the Bunny Girl’s surprised reply from upstairs. The Bunny Girl poked her head out of the room: "Why are you here?"

"There was something at the Church." Malin understatedly told Clovis—the sad things are better kept to oneself.

Hearing that Malin came to visit her during a break from work, the Bunny Girl was very happy. Her belly was noticeably bulging, making Malin somewhat careful as he hugged her.

"Have you been to the hospital? Did the doctor tell you about your due date?" Malin asked.

"No, Malin, you are of Gold blood, aren’t you? A strong child once conceived grows very slowly, even if I am a rabbit it is the same, after all, I also have a high degree of mutation." Clovis caressed her belly, then looked at Malin: "I can feel that you are somewhat unhappy, what’s wrong?"

"It’s nothing, I’ve seen too much of life and death in the North." Malin used this excuse to brush it off.

"Don’t be too hard on yourself, Malin. This is war; it’s the Tide of the Dead. You have already done very well. I have seen the situation in the North from the Mage Tower. The casualty rate is lower than any previous confrontation with the Tide of the Dead. Everyone says it’s your merit, but Nova and Faye think they can’t let people say that, so they have been praising those brave enough to face the Chaos in the North in the name of you on the newspapers in Farole and Sydney."

"They are right. I alone couldn’t eliminate so much Chaos. By the way, what did you say about Ails?" Malin asked with a smile—having Faye and Nova around, he really didn’t need to worry about any rear troubles. His girls had already learned what a public relations battle was from him, and they could solve problems for him without him having to direct them.

"That Lich, we positioned him as your subordinate." Clovis said, taking care to explain—they really did not understand why such a powerful Lich was so submissive to Malin, but based on his actions, it was indeed apparent that he was subordinate to Malin. Thus they made this definition, for one to make Malin sound more powerful (see, even a Lich strong enough to be called Legendary obeys Malin), and secondly, to legalize Ails’s actions in the North so that those in the South could understand more quickly.

After all, no one can say for sure, with the Tide of the Dead approaching, whether the next invasion will hit their own face.

Ails’s Undead army is now faring better and better. In the North, even some soldiers with incurable severe injuries are willing to their bodies to become Skeleton Musketeers after death—most of them have deep-seated hatred against Chaos. They enter into a contract with Ails, and when he confronts Chaos in the North, their Skeletons will join his army. When this invasion ends, or when Ails leaves this world, their Skeletons will stay behind and undergo Purification.
