In truth, the locals knew very well that Peter Brown was the real person who brought water to Tilted Sunset Village. Now seeing how the situation had turned out, everyone was quite unhappy. Helen Brown glanced at Peter and asked, "Do you have a grudge against Mr. Carter?"
Peter began to consider his actions a bit more after experiencing a few events, he realized that in this world there was no such thing as unconditional affection. The fact that Lucy Brown suddenly came to talk to him about this matter indicated that there was some calculation involved.
After a moment’s hesitation, Lucy said, "In any case, it suffices that I have told you about it."
Having said that, Lucy stepped out.
Watching as Lucy left, Peter grinned. It was possible that this woman indeed had a bone to pick with Matthew Carter. That could be good, as she could serve as his eyes and ears.

Peter closed the door and headed to his office.
After ascending the staircase, Peter first arrived at Eleanor Smith’s office.
"Mayor Wei, I’m back," Peter announced his return.
Upon seeing that it was Peter, Eleanor Smith’s face slightly changed, but she quickly turned it into a smile and stood up to say, "Township Head Wang, you’re back. Take a seat, I’ll make you some tea."
Eleanor Smith proceeded to make tea.

Eleanor smiled, sat down, and asked, "Who did you go visit this time?" Everyone knew that the ’elderly’ Peter mentioned when asking for leave were actually people from the orphanage.
"Well, many people cared for me when I was little. I went to visit them, everyone is doing well."
"You’ve had a hard life, never forgetting your roots, that’s good."
After some casual talk, Eleanor said, "The township has made some slight adjustments to your duties. You’ll still oversee the same scope of work, except that Matthew Carter will be handling things in the two villages. I was just about to discuss this matter with you."
"Oh, the poverty alleviation in the two villages is a major endeavor, who will be in charge?"
"The township has decided to let comrade Matthew Carter take the lead. After all, it was comrade Matthew Carter who first suggested siphoning water."

Upon hearing these words, Eleanor turned to look at Peter. His comment indeed caught her off guard. It was clear he was not satisfied with the arrangement.
Eleanor’s eyes flickered, with an undecipherable look in her eyes, she said softly, "With water available, the two villages can now thrive and poverty alleviation becomes easier. Letting comrade Matthew Carter take charge is a nod to your capabilities; you’re supposed to focus on maintaining peace and order. Thus it’s like transferring you back from the village so you can concentrate on maintaining peace in the township."
It was clear that Eleanor was intentionally avoiding Peter’s question.
