Peter Brown found a chair and sat down, looking at Alexander Lee who was now staring blankly into space.
Esme Carter sat down next to Peter and whispered, "Peter, you really know how to make a scene. Just when you thought nothing was going on, you surprised everyone. Things are really heating up now."
Peter didn’t pay him any mind and continued to think about his own matters. He had acted impulsively this time. He didn’t need to personally step in, but instead could have just arranged for Esme Carter to handle things. His decision to step onto the battlefield himself was unnecessary. The commander should be at the rear, right?
Reflecting on this, Peter realized he still lacked experience in certain areas. In the future, when dealing with such matters, if he could avoid rushing to the front, he should. Wouldn’t it be better to manipulate things from behind the scenes?
The more he reflected, the less pleased Peter became with his actions this time around.
Looking at Eleanor Smith and Fabio Wright, Peter saw that they were both incredibly excited. He couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. He had done something for them they couldn’t have done themselves and he expected they might benefit from it.
Seeing where Peter was looking, Esme Carter smirked and said, "Peter, thinking about what you’ve done for them, huh?"
Peter realized that Esme Carter was indeed a sharp person, he could guess at his thoughts.
Esme Carter said, "If you want to fully support someone, I can help."
Peter thought about Esme Carter’s connections, then said, "I’m fine with what I’m doing right now."
Esme replied, "It’s up to you, I know you’re just here for fun. But, even if you’re just playing around, you should still hold the power. Let me know who you want to help, I’ll make it happen. After all, we need people who will listen to us at the bottom."
Looking at Esme Carter again, Peter said, "Take it easy, Lucy Brown of the Party and government affairs office and Tobias Thompson from the Police Station are both good."
Smiling, Esme Carter responded, "Alright, I’ll arrange a few more and then we’ll take control of this place."
Peter felt that he was here to work, unlike Esme Carter who treated it like a game. When it came to personnel matters, Esme didn’t seem to take it seriously.
After observing the situation, Peter sighed. Matters in the countryside weren’t much different from those at home. No matter how convoluted or cunning the plot, it meant nothing in the face of Great Power.
He thought, I’d better continue working towards poverty alleviation here for a bit longer, then leave.
After going through these experiences, Peter felt he had learned enough. He still needed to pursue his path of cultivation, and these experiences shouldn’t hinder his main goal.
When the work group from the county arrived, Peter didn’t claim any credit and instead attributed everything to Esme Carter, stating that Esme had directed the whole operation.
Seeing Peter’s attitude, Esme Carter, knowing Peter didn’t want to attract attention, reluctantly explained the progress of the operation.
Watching them handle the matter, Peter quietly left.
At this point, it was clear to everyone in the local government. They knew that from now on, the power structure in the county would change and despite not being in charge, Peter’s influence was undeniable.
Many people saw Peter in a new light, and inwardly regretted underestimating him because of his young age.
