Supreme Spouse System. Chapter 182

A Bed, A Choice, A Moment

The night wind sighed against their flesh—cool, light, and scented with the whisper of secrets. It crept through the open window like a specter, caressing Leon and Nova as they stood shoulder to shoulder, frozen. Two silhouettes standing in silver moonlight, suspended in calm after turmoil.

Farther down, the final glimpse of Natasha’s receding form dissolved into the forest. She was gone, her oppressive presence, once a storm cloud bearing down on their lungs, lifted. They were left with only quiet—and the gentle shake of leaves as the world breathed out.

Leon’s golden eyes remained trained on the darkness beyond the garden fence, jaw set, stance taut. The adrenaline was wearing off, but his senses were still jacked. At his side, Nova finally exhaled a slow, measured breath—like the release of a tautly strung bowstring.

It wasn’t pain that oppressed her muscles. It was everything else. The evening had been a tempest of decisions, feelings, and stress that stuck to her skin like dew.

Leon had first shown up in her bedroom without warning, that infuriating, impossible smile on his face. Then she—against all rules she had ever lived by—had slipped out of her own mansion to flee with him into the center of Moonspire’s night.

It had been exhilarating. Taboo. Nearly mystical.

Until Natasha emerged out of the darkness like a blade of darkness, making their stolen evening a war zone.

Nova’s eyes drifted to Leon, green eyes lined with exhaustion and something quieter, deeper.

"Leon." she said, the voice low, rough around the edges.

He turned to her immediately, a quiet growl building in his throat. "Hmm?"

He looked at her—steady, calm, but that inner fire still burning beneath his composure.

Nova didn’t respond at once. She didn’t need to. There was too much unsaid standing between them, hanging in the air like the heavy, greasy feel of a stormy night.

Finally, she smiled wearily and smoothed a tangle of wind-blown hair back from her ear. "I think I’ll go back to my mansion," she said quietly. "I could use some rest."

Leon’s eyebrows rose—not in shock, but in a manner that suggested he’d already anticipated her words. A sly amusement danced at the edges of his mouth.

Then, without saying anything, he began moving in her direction. Each step was slow, relaxed on the surface—but there was purpose behind them. Intentional. Unmistakable.

Nova blinked. "What—?"

Before she could even finish the question, his arms wrapped around her waist.

A little gasp slipped from her lips—startled, reflex—but she didn’t step back. Her hands rested lightly on his chest, as though searching for equilibrium. As though she required the stabilizing.

He didn’t clench her closer. Simply held her, close enough to feel heat flow between them.

She tipped her head upwards, eyes locking with his.

Leon leaned in just enough for his voice to dip, low and teasing. "You really plan to sneak all the way back through the garden, past my guards, then past yours—just to return to that cold, empty bed in your mansion after everything we’ve been through tonight?"

Her lips parted, caught somewhere between a retort and a breath.

But it was never about the comfort. Or the guards. Or even fatigue.

It was about room. Power. Drawing a line before she stepped too far—too quickly.

And yet... she didn’t budge.

Her body protested from the battle. Her heart had hardly stilled since the mayhem. But for some reason, his arms muted everything. His being quieted the din in her head.

She exhaled, her tone gentle, "I mean... today did cost me. We battled a Monarch Realm cultivator, Leon. Monarch Realm. That’s not really how I envisioned tonight going."

"And yet," Leon said, eyes shining, "you did everything perfectly." first not me it’s we and from we most part do you not me and she Nova broke away, irritated by the flush on her cheeks. "I am serious," she growled. "That was no small battle where one misstep our lives also lost. and by the way Tomorrow’s banquet is also going to be a circus, too. I really do need some time to—"

"Rest," Leon interrupted smoothly, nodding as if it was the most sensible thing in the universe. Then his smile curved, devilish with no shame, he added. "Right. So naturally, you should rest right here. In my room. In my bed."

Nova blinked, eyebrows shooting high. "Excuse me?"

She turned to him fully—and immediately regretted it.

Those golden eyes met hers with a spark of mischief, warm and teasing, dangerously familiar. She knew that look. It always meant trouble. Or worse—seduction.

And then there was that ridiculous confidence. That charm. That damn smirk.

Still... she couldn’t help herself.

"You’re insufferable," she muttered, folding her arms tightly across her chest, doing her best to sound composed. "I want to sleep in my own bed."

Leon gasped, hand to his chest in mock offense. "But think about it," he said, slipping into a mock-serious tone that only made him sound smugger. "You and I... we’re going to be husband and wife someday, right?"

The flush hit her neck before she could stop it—but she didn’t say a word. Just narrowed her eyes, daring him to keep talking.

Which, of course, he did.

"Eventually," he continued with a slow, knowing grin, "we’ll be sharing the same house. Same room. Same bed."

His voice dropped a note lower on that last word—smooth, unhurried, and way too dangerous.

Nova’s breath caught.

She hated how easily he could do this. One line. One look. That was all it took to throw her off balance.

And now? She didn’t know if she wanted to kiss him. or slap that smirk off his face. Maybe both.

"So," he went on, edging closer by just a hair, "why not begin getting accustomed to it? Tonight. Here. With me." That grin of his was trouble—wicked mischief laced with warmth.

Nova snorted, shaking her head, but he didn’t let up.

Then, as if he knew what was on her mind, Leon leaned back and raised a brow. "Nova. Consider it,"

She folded her arms closer to her body.

"If you sneak back now," he continued, "you’ll be tired. The guards are still waiting out there. The path’s the same. And if you get caught..." He left it hanging with a flourish. "Well. Then you’ll have to tell them why you were out—past midnight. In fighting clothes?"

The idea of her guards whispering behind her back, advisors posing pointed questions, nobles spinning scandal from darkness—it made her gut roil. The political migraine alone was already crowding at her temples.

Leon’s profile was keen on her, and his eyes softened.

His voice dropped, deep and soothing. "Or... you may remain. Right here. In this peaceful, beautiful room. In a warm, soft bed. Warm me. No drama. No politics. Just... us."

She’s squinted her eyes again....
