After finalizing the equipment forging order with Bill and returning to the mansion, Adam heard screams and chaos echoing throughout the building.
With this question in mind, he strode inside.
The entrance hall was in complete disarray.
"Adam, quick, pack your things — we need to leave Axel!" Aqua stumbled toward him in panic, "Run away, as far away as possible!"
Like a headless chicken, she darted up and down the mansion, gathering valuables into a large bundle on her back. The growing pile created a comical contrast with her petite frame.
Adam's first thought was that Aqua had committed some terrible crime and was trying to flee the beginner's town to escape punishment.
But she wasn't alone — even Megumin was doing the same. A small packed bundle sat at her feet while she calmly sipped tea with a resigned expression.
"Uh..." He instinctively assumed she was an accomplice, and this time the trouble must be serious indeed.
Yet if that were the case, Kazuma should be panicking too. Instead, Adam found him fully equipped in a dashing white cape, ready for battle.
He wasn't preparing to run — he was preparing to fight.
Darkness, standing nearby, was similarly ready for action.
She appeared even more prepared than Kazuma to face whatever challenge awaited, fully armored with her shield at her side and cape draped across her back.
The observant Adam noticed she was also wearing unusual gauntlets — pure silver ones with a subtle flowing light that must be special equipment.
"Kazuma, Darkness, what exactly is going on?" He asked, completely bewildered.
"Hmm... Perhaps Carter-senpai didn't hear the emergency broadcast from the Adventurer's Guild earlier?" Kazuma asked.
"Emergency broadcast? Sorry, I was at Bill's forge earlier — the noise was too loud to hear anything. What did the guild announce?" Adam asked.
"I see. Well, the guild issued an emergency broadcast requiring all adventurers to gather fully armed — something big has happened." Kazuma explained, then shouted at the jumping Aqua, "Hey, Aqua, no matter how much you panic now it won't help! If the whole beginner's town is going to be destroyed anyway, we might as well go storm the Demon King's castle!"
"Ah... huh?" Adam understood most of what Kazuma said, but the part about storming the Demon King's castle left him baffled.
Had Kazuma lost his mind, or had the Demon King gotten weaker?
At level 15, thinking of taking on the Demon King alone?
"Ahhhh?!" Aqua cried out in disbelief, "What nonsense are you talking about, stupid Kazuma? Are you planning to try to stop the Mobile Fortress Destroyer?"
Hmm—?! This was quite a jump in topic.
And Mobile Fortress Destroyer? Why was this name coming up?
Aqua's words left Adam stunned.
The Mobile Fortress Destroyer shouldn't appear until winter — why would it show up early?
He fell into deep thought.
"Kazuma, that extremely dangerous thing approaching us is the Mobile Fortress Destroyer — the ultimate bounty target known as the 'Moving Disaster' that leaves nothing alive except Axis Cult followers, not even a blade of grass!" Megumin's harsh comparison really hurt Aqua's feelings.
"Hey, Megumin, why do you have to describe my followers like that?! They're perfectly normal, good children — why are you all so afraid of them?! Why is this happening?!"
Megumin calmly explained the horror of the Mobile Fortress Destroyer to Kazuma, the otherworlder, completely ignoring Aqua's protests beside her.
"Even after your explanation, I still can't grasp it." Kazuma admitted. Having never seen the actual form of the "Moving Disaster", he couldn't imagine its terror and felt no fear.
Knowing he needed guidance, he turned to their team leader.
"Carter-senpai, what do you think?"
"Well..." Adam snapped out of his contemplation and, after a brief pause, said, "I want to stay, our team should—"
"No way!" Megumin cut him off, her voice rising with urgency, "That Mobile Fortress Destroyer is terrifying — we can't possibly stop it!"
She emphasized its overwhelming power, describing them as mere ants before the moving disaster.
"Wait — even Megumin's Explosion Magic can't handle it? From its name, it sounds huge. Couldn't we spot it from far away and blast it to pieces?"
As Megumin's teammate, Kazuma knew well the might of his team's Arch-Wizard's〘Explosion Magic〙.
It was destruction-class magic capable of reshaping the landscape with a single blast!
He believed one〘Explosion Magic〙strike should suffice to destroy the Mobile Fortress Destroyer. Yet Megumin's warnings made him waver, stirring thoughts of retreat.
"No, impossible! The Destroyer has a powerful magic barrier — it can withstand multiple Explosion spells."
"What—?!" Kazuma's mouth twitched at this revelation. He hadn't expected the moving disaster to be so formidable. Left without answers, he could only look to his team leader for direction.
Should they stay or go?
All eyes turned to Adam.
After careful consideration, he spoke firmly, "My decision... is still to stay!"
"Is that so." Darkness, who had been silent until now, exhaled softly upon hearing his decision to stay.
She had already resolved that if the team chose to leave, she would break from them and remain behind.
As the lord's daughter, a noble lady, and a 「Crusader」, Darkness would never abandon her villagers!
"Aqua, Megumin, if we run away, the village will be destroyed. And..." Adam gazed around the mansion's hall, "This mansion — our home filled with precious memories — will be crushed by the Mobile Fortress Destroyer and scattered to the winds. We'll lose everything. Can you accept that?"
Though his words carried raw sentiment, they ignited a fighting spirit in both women.
"You're right! This is Adam's and my home — we can't let that thing destroy it!"
"Hmph! I am the strongest Arch Wizard of the Crimson Demon Clan. How dare I even consider fleeing from battle! Stand back and witness my power!"
Their declarations rang with conviction.
With this, the team stood united as one.
