Qin Jian took the water and guzzled it down in one breath.
He had been so busy all morning that he truly hadn’t had a chance to drink any water; he intended to finish up here as soon as possible so he could head back to the city earlier.
Ever since he returned, he had been preoccupied with the Qin family’s affairs, leaving him no time to properly accompany his parents.
After drinking an entire jug of water, An Hao poured him another half.
Seeing him drenched in sweat, An Hao felt an ache in her heart. She turned and went back into the house to get a clean towel, doused it in water a few times, and then came out to wipe the sweat off Qin Jian.
"You, why do you have to work yourself to death? Whether you do this work a bit earlier or a bit later, it won’t multiply on its own. You should rest when you need to," An Hao said as she wiped the sweat from Qin Jian’s face.
"This bit of work is nothing to me. The training intensity in the army was much greater than this," he replied.
As the couple was talking, the conversation inside the house concluded.
Zhang Juyun and Song Yueqin came out feeling unsatisfied, but since things had ended up this way, they had no choice but to accept their fate.
As the mother and daughter reached the door, Zhang Juyun saw Qin Jian holding the water jug and drinking eagerly as An Hao wiped the beads of sweat from his upper body before filling his cup with another half from the kettle.
"Oh my, An Hao, didn’t you say there was no water left in the kettle? How come there’s water now?" Earlier when she had asked for a drink, what had An Hao told her?
That there was no water left and offered her a ladle of cold water.
And now? Wasn’t Qin Jian drinking his fill from the big jug?
"So sorry about that, I completely forgot just now. I went to the kitchen to boil water and found that there was still a full kettle of water," An Hao said with a giggle.
She said she was sorry, but in truth, she didn’t feel the slightest bit of remorse.
"You did that on purpose, didn’t you?" To deliberately not give them water to drink.
"Look at what you’re implying, auntie. You’re really judging others by your own measure," An Hao joked, leaving Zhang Juyun so angry she could spit blood, "Luckily, I’ve got a broad enough mind to let it slide; I won’t stoop to your level," An Hao continued.
"Oh my God, oh heavens!" Were this girl’s lips made of blades? They were so sharp, so ruthless.
"Mom, let’s go! We shouldn’t bother with her," Song Yueqin said as she tugged at Zhang Juyun’s sleeve, ready to head back.
Watching the mother and daughter pair go, with their faces turning from red to green in anger, An Hao’s mood lifted greatly.
As Song Yueqin passed by An Hao, she said through clenched teeth, "Fine, you’re something else, not even sparing us a drop of water to drink."
"Thanks for the compliment!" An Hao said on tiptoes as she wiped the sweat from Qin Jian’s head, "Compared to you, of course, I’ll care more for my man. What’s there for you to feel upset about? And even if you do feel that way, please keep it to yourself."
"Oh my goodness! She’s going to be the death of me!" Song Yueqin fumed so much that she almost hopped with rage as she walked away.
An Hao chuckled quietly to herself; it’d be better if she did die off!
Dying off would mean one less person contributing to carbon dioxide emissions!
Having seen off the prospective mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, Qin Fen was feeling really displeased. His little scheme had seemed perfect at first; he had wanted the An family to foot the bill.
All that fuss, and it ended up backfiring on him.
Consequently, his impression and opinion of An Hao just went from bad to worse.
Taking advantage of the lunch break, he dragged Qin Jian over to the side and began to complain to him about An Hao.
