The car drove straight up to Qin Jian and then stopped.
The guard got off the car, saluted Qin Jian, and said, "Staff officer! The chief has ordered you to rush home. There’s an urgent matter that needs your attention!"
"What matter?" Qin Jian asked.
"The chief didn’t provide me with details, he simply told me to inform you that Gu Shuangshuang’s parents have arrived in Nancheng City to find their daughter."
Upon mentioning this, An Hao could guess the reason: "It must be that the secret’s out. Her parents must have found out and are coming to demand an explanation. What are we going to do now?"
Qin Jian patted her arm, signaling her not to panic: "We’ll find out once we get back. Don’t worry too much for now."
After thinking for a moment, An Hao felt that was probably right. It must be that Gu Shuangshuang’s parents discovered her lies, so they were coming to find her.
But Gu Shuangshuang had already gone to Tianhui Village and was unreachable, so her parents must have called her, finding her this way.
"If that’s the case, we don’t need to panic. Let’s finish handling things with An Ping before we leave!" An Hao said.
Qin Jian nodded in agreement, and so he told the officer to wait there for a few minutes until they had finished their business before heading back.
An Ping’s arrangement to contract several wells had gone quite smoothly; a few village officials had called a small meeting. It was soon settled without making things difficult for him.
They only had a few small requests for him, naturally for the good of the villagers.
They hoped that even though the wells were contracted by An Ping, he would be generous to the villagers with water usage, and not too petty about it.
An Ping agreed to everything since these were trivial matters As long as he could grow his vegetables and the villagers could live in harmony, taking a small loss didn’t matter.
Besides, such matters didn’t necessarily mean a loss.
After handling the matter, An Hao and Qin Jian hurried home to pack up their things briefly, greeted An Shuchao, and then left.
The car sped back to the military compound. When it stopped at the entrance, An Hao noticed that another military vehicle with an out-of-town plate was parked outside their house.
The two of them didn’t delay for a moment and went straight inside upon getting out of the car.
As soon as they entered, they saw a man and a woman, both strangers, sitting on the living room sofa.
The woman was stylishly dressed in a coat and leather shoes, her hair permed, with a delicate makeup adorning her face, resembling Gu Shuangshuang by around seventy percent.
The man was in military attire, his facial features firm and tough, and through his epaulets, it could be determined that he was a lieutenant colonel.
She remembered Gu Shuangshuang once telling her that her father was the staff officer of a certain unit in the Northern Military Region.
Seeing the two of them return, the people seated on the sofa stood up, and Zhang Yun introduced them, "This is my son Qin Jian, and his wife An Hao, also good friends of Gu Shuangshuang."
Since Zhang Yun had introduced them, An Hao was certain they were Gu Shuangshuang’s parents and greeted them with a smile, "Hello, uncle and auntie!"
