Xu Siyan was reassured now that she really was okay.
Just as he was about to say something, he heard a “gurgle” sound.
Xu Siyan looked at Shen Zhaozhao with surprise.
Shen Zhaozhao touched her stomach and smiled awkwardly, “I was in such a hurry this morning, I forgot to have breakfast!”
Upon hearing this, Xu Siyan couldn’t help but laugh. He took out a bottle of milk from his bag and handed it to her, “This is all I’ve got on me, have it for now. We’ll look for something to eat near the exam site once we get there.”
“Thanks!” Shen Zhaozhao didn’t stand on ceremony, taking the milk and inserting the straw straight into her mouth.
Xu Siyan was about to zip up when his gaze suddenly fell inside the backpack. He hesitated, then pulled out a pack of motion sickness patches and handed it to Shen Zhaozhao, “Oh, and take these too. I remember you get carsick.”
“Aren’t you thoughtful! To have even prepared this,” Shen Zhaozhao said with a smile as she accepted it.
Seeing that she didn’t refuse, the nervousness in Xu Siyan’s heart relaxed all at once, and he too started to smile.
He knew Shen Zhaozhao suffered from car sickness, but previously Sheng Chuyi had always been by her side, and there was no need for anyone else to prepare such things for her.
This time when he set out, he somehow thought of it and especially went to a pharmacy.
And it turned out to be really necessary.
The journey to Lin City was almost an hour, and for Shen Zhaozhao, it was the perfect time to catch up on some sleep.
She was groggily awakened by Xu Siyan.
“Are we there?” she rubbed her eyes and sat up straight.
Shen Zhaozhao followed the crowd off the coach, but as she stepped down the last step, someone suddenly stepped on her heel, causing her to instantly lose her balance.
Fortunately, Xu Siyan was in front of her and managed to turn back in time to catch her after hearing her exclamation.
“Are you okay?” Xu Siyan asked.
“I’m fine!” Shen Zhaozhao steadied herself with his help, turned around, and saw the girl who had accused her on the bus standing behind her.
When the girl saw her looking, she apologized without much sincerity, “Sorry about that! Didn’t mean to. Are you okay?”
If the girl’s apology had been a bit more sincere, perhaps Shen Zhaozhao would’ve believed it wasn’t intentional.
But from the girl’s expression, it was clear there wasn’t much sincerity.
It even carried a hint of provocation.
Shen Zhaozhao couldn’t help but frown. She didn’t think she had offended the girl. Even when she was late and delayed everyone previously, she had apologized for it.
But the girl was unrelenting, even deliberately stepping on her heel to make her fall.
If Xu Siyan hadn’t been in front to catch her, she might have fallen flat on the ground.
Why go to such lengths?
“I’m fine, but maybe next time you walk, you should be more careful. After all, you wouldn’t want to cause someone to fall over!” Shen Zhaozhao was never one to be pushed around, and she immediately pushed back neither too harshly nor too softly.
The other girl had thought that Shen Zhaozhao, like before, wouldn’t say anything even if bullied, and was taken aback by her confronting her.
Just as she was about to speak up, the team leader teacher came over and asked, “What happened?”
“Nothing, teacher, just Shen stumbling a bit getting off the bus, nearly tripped,” the girl said with a glance at Shen Zhaozhao, pre-empting her in speaking.
The team leader teacher then turned to Shen Zhaozhao to inquire, “Are you okay?”
“I’m good!” Shen Zhaozhao shook her head.
“Glad you’re fine. Everyone, please be careful and stay safe,” the teacher said, drawing his attention back and then reminding the rest, “We’re pressed for time this trip, so everyone move quickly, let’s head to the exam site first!”
With a challenging look at Shen Zhaozhao, the girl then passed her on the way to the exam venue.
