During the first monthly exam of the school year, Sheng Chuyi once again came out on top and sought out Xu Caiyun with a request to be seated next to Shen Zhaozhao.
The reasoning was to conveniently supervise her studies.
Though Xu Caiyun was not entirely in favor of the two being desk mates, worried that it would spark a new round of gossip in the class because of the previous rumors, the first and second rankers had the privilege of choosing their own seats, a rule she had set when she first took on the role of class headteacher.
However, it had been a long time since Sheng Chuyi had made any requests about his seating arrangement.
This was the first time he’d requested a particular desk mate, and as the headteacher, it wasn’t easy to refuse.
And so, in his second semester after transferring, Sheng Chuyi and Shen Zhaozhao became desk mates.
Shen Zhaozhao once again became the center of everyone’s discussions.
“Who knows what kind of love potion that girl has fed Sheng Chuyi, I mean, why else would he be so good to her?” Meng Feifei said bitterly, her face green with envy as she looked toward Shen Zhaozhao.
Everybody said that being Shen Zhaozhao’s desk mate was Sheng Chuyi’s idea. After all, if he hadn’t given the nod, the headteacher certainly wouldn’t have arranged it .
Otherwise, the seat next to him wouldn’t have been empty for so long without anyone occupying it.
Ye Wei’an followed the gaze of the others and thought to herself, what’s the big deal about them being desk mates? They even lived together.
But she hadn’t mentioned this to anyone else yet.
It wasn’t that she wanted to keep it a secret on their behalf; she just hadn’t found the opportunity. If word got out just like that, they would definitely guess it was her.
However, after such a long time, even if it did get out, there’d be no proof it had anything to do with her.
Ye Wei’an casually turned to Meng Feifei and said, “Didn’t you say last time you liked that ornament in my room? I asked a friend to bring back an identical one from abroad. Come to my house over the weekend to get it!”
“Really? Wei’an, you’re too good to me!” Meng Feifei couldn’t help but become excited upon hearing this.
It wasn’t that she genuinely liked the ornament that much. It was the thought that the other person remembered her preferences and went out of their way to get an identical one for her that made her feel valued.
“We’re friends, after all!” Ye Wei’an said with a smile.
Meng Feifei: “You’re right, you are my best friend.”
With a smile on her face, Ye Wei’an’s eyes hid a hint of scorn. If it weren’t for the girl’s usefulness, she wouldn’t want to be friends with such a fool.
After returning from Leisure Villa, Shen Zhaozhao clearly had something on her mind.
Lying in bed at night, she inevitably recalled the scene at the hot spring pool and the image of the other person holding her foot to help her put on her shoes at the ski resort.
Sitting up in bed, Shen Zhaozhao tapped her head forcefully and said, “Shen Zhaozhao, snap out of it. He already has someone he likes. What you need to focus on right now is to study hard and prepare for the Olympiad.”
But knowing was one thing and doing it was another.
Unable to sleep, Shen Zhaozhao thought of going out for some air.
There was a large terrace outside her room. Shen Zhaozhao pushed the door open and stepped out.
Sheng Chuyi, having just finished his homework, stood at his window, ready to relax his eyes before going to bed. He then heard a noise from downstairs and looked down to see Shen Zhaozhao stepping out from her room.
The latter stretched and then stood at the edge of the terrace, staring blankly into the distance.
Sheng Chuyi watched for a while before turning to leave.
Shortly after, Shen Zhaozhao heard a knock behind her. She checked and confirmed that the sound was coming from outside her own room and then walked over to open the door.
