His sister’s personality had always been , doing as she pleased. Knowing she couldn’t stay put, their parents had guessed and sent him to check on her.
Sheng Ning’an took a taxi to the agreed-upon KTV.
She had been learning to drive over the summer break for over a month, but she hadn’t taken her driving test yet. Although Grandpa had gifted her a sports car, for now, she could only look at it, not drive it.
As soon as Sheng Ning’an entered the private room, she was showered with a head full of confetti.
"Happy Birthday!" Tang Dou led the applause and rushed forward to give her a big hug.
The room was quite crowded, mostly with classmates she had known for three years in high school. There were also some friends she had gotten along well with since middle school, who she had stayed in contact with.
"Thank you, everyone!" Sheng Ning’an greeted everyone with a smile.
Tang Dou pulled her towards the couch to sit down, but Sheng Ning’an, feeling uncomfortable with confetti in her hair, handed her bag to Tang Dou and asked him to take care of it saying, "I’m going to the restroom to clean up a bit, please entertain everyone for me. Order whatever you want to eat or drink. It’s on me tonight, nobody be shy, just have fun."
"No worries, I know you’re a little rich girl and I won’t be frugal with your money. It’s your coming of age party; you must have received many gifts, right? Perfect, we also have something prepared for you, wait till you come back to open them."
"Okay!" Sheng Ning’an pushed open the door to the private room and headed to the restroom.
When she came out, she suddenly couldn’t remember the room number, and her phone was in her bag. She couldn’t even find someone to ask.
Sheng Ning’an stood in the hallway, hesitating whether to knock on each door one by one when she heard footsteps from the other end of the corridor. She looked up and saw a figure walking towards her.
The man was quite tall, his facial features vaguely familiar. As he came closer, she managed to clearly see his face, and Sheng Ning’an couldn’t help but pause in surprise.
The man, too, seemed a bit taken aback upon seeing her, and greeted with a smile, "Hey, little girl, long time no see!"
Seeing the suddenly appeared Xu Weiran, Sheng Ning’an exclaimed, "You’re back in the country?" He was originally supposed to be abroad for an exchange for a year and a half, but due to some reasons, he had stayed abroad for an additional year, and had only just returned to the country today.
"Yes!" Xu Weiran laughed, "Just got off the plane. You’re the first familiar face I’ve seen since coming back. Isn’t that fate?"
"You came straight to KTV after getting off the plane?" How urgent was he?
Xu Weiran explained, "A friend knew I was coming back and specially arranged a welcome party for me here."
As Sheng Ning’an finished speaking, the door to her private room was pushed open, and Tang Dou’s loud voice came from the doorway, "Birthday girl, you’re finally back! I thought you fell into the toilet, I was about to go look for you in the restroom."
Sheng Ning’an responded, then said to Xu Weiran, "My friends are still waiting for me, I need to go back in."
"Sure!" Xu Weiran smiled and nodded.
Only then did Tang Dou get a clear look at Xu Weiran standing in front of Sheng Ning’an; he opened his mouth as if about to say something but got pulled back into the room by Sheng Ning’an.
As the door to the private room closed again, Tang Dou’s excited voice exclaimed, "Was that just God Xu?"
"Didn’t he go abroad?"
Sheng Ning’an: "He just got back today!"
Tang Dou’s expression visibly burst with excitement, "Such a coincidence? Why didn’t you invite him to join us earlier? After all, he was like a half-teacher to you for helping you with your lessons."
Sheng Ning’an: "...His friends are having a welcome party for him here too."
"Oh! I see." Tang Dou then gave up the idea of inviting him to join them.
After all, friends and a briefly taught student are definitely more important over the former.
