In that period, Xu Weiran always came back very late.
Anyway, going back was to an empty home, so he preferred to stay a bit longer in the laboratory.
He tried to finish the experimental data before the New Year so that he could spend more time with his girlfriend during the holidays.
As usual, he did not return to his place until almost midnight. Upon opening the door, he was surprised to find the lights still on inside.
Xu Weiran paused for a moment, then, thinking of something, he entered and changed his shoes. As he walked into the living room, he saw Sheng Ning’an asleep on the couch.
A smile couldn’t help but spread across his face.
The heater was on inside the house, and Xu Weiran took off his coat and casually placed it over the armrest of the sofa.
He then crouched in front of the couch, staring at the sleeping figure for quite some time.
Sheng Ning’an was sleeping deeply; otherwise, she wouldn’t have failed to notice someone opening the door and coming in. The light overhead bathed her in a warm shadow, making her look both peaceful and soft.
Even in her sleep, she was so beautiful that it was hard to take one’s eyes off of her.
After watching for a long time, Xu Weiran finally stood up and bent over, intending to carry her back to the bedroom to sleep.
But the moment he lifted her from the couch, Sheng Ning’an woke up.
Her eyes just opened, still not quite discerning reality from dreams, she looked at the face close to hers, and her brain momentarily froze.
After a moment, she slowly began to function again and wrapped her arms around his neck, saying, "You’re back?" Her voice, still hoarse and soft from sleep, was inadvertently seductive.
"Yeah, why didn’t you tell me you were coming?" Xu Weiran asked softly.
Sheng Ning’an said, "I didn’t want to disturb your work, so I didn’t tell you. I just didn’t expect you to come back so late. Experiments are important, but so is your health. I don’t want a boyfriend who ages before his time."
"Don’t worry, your boyfriend is very healthy," Xu Weiran chuckled.
This girl knew how to persuade people.
Xu Weiran then put her down and asked, "Sorry, I didn’t know you were coming. Have you eaten?"
"Yes!" Sheng Ning’an was never one to neglect herself. Having waited a long time without his return, she ordered takeout for herself.
Sheng Ning’an sat up and glanced at the time on the wall—it was nearly midnight.
"Is it this late already?" No wonder they say scientists are crazy.
Working as if their lives depended on it.
"Yeah, do you want to stay here tonight?" Xu Weiran asked.
By this time, the dormitory would have turned off its lights, and if she went home, he certainly wouldn’t be at ease with her alone. If he sent her and then returned, he would probably not get back until one or two in the morning.
Sheng Ning’an didn’t want him to have such a hard time!
If she remembered correctly, there was only one bedroom here.

He immediately noticed what she was thinking and laughed softly, "Don’t worry, you’ll sleep in the bedroom, and I’ll sleep on the couch."

Xu Weiran then sat down on the couch and stretched out his hand towards her, saying, "Come here!"

His hands wrapped around her waist, locking her in his embrace.
His warm breath tickled the back of her neck, causing Sheng Ning’an’s body to instantly stiffen.
Xu Weiran said, "I’m so tired, let me hold you!" After speaking, he rested his chin on her shoulder.
Sheng Ning’an, feeling the weariness in his voice, gradually relaxed her tense body.
