After getting into the car, Sheng Ning’an planned to take Xu Weiran to see the place where his parents went to school.

While waiting for the traffic light at the intersection, Sheng Ning’an pointed across the street and said to him, “That’s where my parents went to elementary school. The two had just finished speaking when they heard a piercing screeching of brakes from across the street.
A car, trying to avoid a pedestrian, braked urgently, causing the tires to slip. The vehicle lost control and headed straight for them.
In the nick of time, Xu Weiran unbuckled his seat belt and lunged forward to protect Sheng Ning’an.
A loud “bang” ensued as their vehicle was hit hard and slid several meters before finally coming to a halt against the guardrail at the side of the road.
Xu Weiran’s first reaction was to check on Sheng Ning’an beneath him, “Are you alright?”
The accident had happened too quickly for Sheng Ning’an to react, and she had been entirely shielded by Xu Weiran.
After coming to her senses, she shook her head and said, “I’m fine, what about you?”
Just after Xu Weiran finished speaking, blood began to trickle down from his forehead, dripping onto Sheng Ning’an’s face.
“You’re injured!” Sheng Ning’an’s face changed color.
“I’m fine, don’t be scared!” Xu Weiran squeezed out a smile and said, “It must be from when the airbag deployed.”
But Sheng Ning’an couldn’t smile, she helped him sit up straight, and pressing a stack of papers against his wound, she said, “Don’t move, I’m going to call an ambulance right now.”
Sheng Ning’an opened her phone but found her hands shaking terribly.
Xu Weiran tried to reach out to hold her hand but realized he couldn’t lift his arm without pain; it was clear he had been injured.
Without betraying any discomfort, he switched hands and held hers, “I really am fine, don’t panic!”
Sheng Ning’an finally calmed down enough to dial 120.
After making the call, she completely regained her composure. Worried about the safety of remaining in the car, she unbuckled her seat belt, got out of the car, and then walked around to the other side. Opening the driver’s door, she asked Xu Weiran, “Can you move right now?”
“I can!” Xu Weiran nodded.
Sheng Ning’an helped him out of the car.
Meanwhile, the out-of-control vehicle had also come to a stop, but the people inside had not yet gotten out. Xu Weiran was about to check on them when Sheng Ning’an called out to him, “What are you doing?”
“I don’t know how the people in the car are, I’m going over to check!”
Sheng Ning’an frowned and said, “You’re injured yourself, why worry about others?”
“I’m fine!” Xu Weiran insisted.
“Even if you’re fine, you’re not going!” Sheng Ning’an glared at him, “Stay put, don’t move, I’ll go take a look and come right back.” With that, she walked towards the other car.
