When Sheng Ning’an woke up again, she found herself lying on a hospital bed with an IV in her hand.
Xu Weiran was sitting beside her. As soon as she opened her eyes, he immediately asked, "You’re awake, do you feel a bit better?"
"How did I end up in the hospital?" Sheng Ning’an stared at the plain white ceiling, with no recollection of the previous night’s events.
She only remembered Xu Weiran reading to her before she fell asleep, making her feel like she was a child again.
When she was sick as a child, her dad would stay by her side and read her stories at the bedside too, but those were storybooks back then.
She couldn’t remember what Xu Weiran read to her. She was so dizzy from the fever last night that she had no idea what he was reading, only that his voice was very soothing.
Perhaps she could have him read a little to her every night before bed from now on.
"You had another fever last night. I saw that the fever medicine didn’t help, so I brought you to the hospital," Xu Weiran explained.
"I’m fine!" From childhood until now, Sheng Ning’an has always been quite healthy and rarely falls ill, but when she does, it’s usually more serious than for most people.
"What time is it?" Sheng Ning’an asked next.
Xu Weiran glanced at the time: "It’s almost six in the morning."
"Did you stay up all night?" Sheng Ning’an looked at him with faint heartache, noting the dark circles under his eyes.
He had already worked overtime late into the night, and now he’d stayed up through the night to take care of her.
Xu Weiran looked at the IV fluid and said, "It’s okay. There’s just a little bit left, and once it’s done, we can go home and rest. Do you want anything to eat? I can get you something."
"No need, I don’t have an appetite." Sheng Ning’an shook her head. After burning up all night, she now only felt thirsty and didn’t want to eat anything.
"Even if you’re not hungry, you have to eat," Xu Weiran urged. "You’re already sick. If you don’t eat, how will you recover your strength? What if Grandpa and Grandma, Uncle and Aunt see that you’ve lost weight when you go back and think I didn’t take good care of you? How would they feel about you staying with me?"
Sheng Ning’an was amused by him: "Alright, alright, I’ll eat! But right now I’m really thirsty. Can you get me some water first?"
Xu Weiran helped her sit up, picked up the thermos on the table, poured a cup of warm water, stuck in a straw, and handed it to her, reminding her, "Careful, drink slowly."
Sheng Ning’an felt like a child being taken care of by someone.
After drinking, her throat felt better, and she was more energetic, "How much longer until I’m better? I just want to hurry back and take a hot shower."
Who knows how much she sweated last night; her clothes felt all sticky now.
For someone with a cleanliness obsession, it was unbearable.
Xu Weiran said, "Your fever just came down, you can’t shower now. It’s easy to dehydrate and catch another cold. Wait a bit, and once your body has recovered some more, you can shower."
"No way. I feel like I’m about to stink. It’s so uncomfortable not being able to shower." Sheng Ning’an frowned.
She couldn’t stand not showering while being with her boyfriend.
This would seriously damage her image!
"You don’t stink, still smell nice!" Xu Weiran assured her.
Seriously, what’s he going on about?
Xu Weiran hadn’t realized her discomfort and continued, "If you’re really not feeling well, you can wipe down with warm water, but definitely no showering."
"Got it. You’re even more nagging than my Grandma!" Sheng Ning’an’s cheeks reddened, not wanting to continue the conversation.
