The privileged living conditions gave her ample time and money to take care of herself, so even after so many years, it seemed as if time had not left much of a mark on her, and she remained as elegant and beautiful as ever.
"Is there something you need?"
After not seeing each other for over a decade, Qin Muni’s overly indifferent attitude made Zhao Yaru’s eyes well up with tears, a faint mist forming in her eyes that were identical to Qin Muni’s peach blossom eyes, the redness of her eye rims evoking pity.
Her wounded expression inexplicably repulsed Qin Muni, "If there’s nothing, then I’ll be leaving first."
Fearful she might truly turn away and leave, Zhao Yaru quickly spoke anxiously, "Let’s find a place and talk for a while."
Qin Muni stood upright, staring directly at Zhao Yaru, who was only inches away from her, her lightly made-up face showing no emotion.
After hesitating for about five seconds, she nodded to agree, then took the lead in leaving.
There was a café in the community where she lived, and she and Zhao Yaru walked there in silence, one in front, the other behind.
Though just a few minutes’ walk to the café, Qin Muni felt it stretched on like centuries, as many indescribable emotions suddenly surged inside her, leaving her a bit powerless.
After arriving at the café, the two of them found a seat by the window. Qin Muni ordered a coffee, then directly got to the point. Zhang Qi, with red lips, said indifferently, "Just say whatever you want."
"Munni, these past years you..." The caring words were cut off by Qin Muni before they could be said.
Qin Muni lifted her eyelids to look at the woman sitting opposite, whose eyebrows were filled with concern and affection, chuckling coldly, "I’ve been doing well these years. My dad trained me very well. If there’s something, just say it straightforwardly. No need to beat around the bush since everyone is quite busy."
The smile on Zhao Yaru’s face froze awkwardly. She pursed her red lips and remained silent, staring at Qin Muni.
From the eyes that seemed to convey unspoken words, Qin Muni naturally perceived that Zhao Yaru was not simply wanting to see her, but likely had encountered some problem.
Seeing her still not speaking, Qin Muni finally impatiently said, "Speak."
Only then did Zhao Yaru slightly helplessly open her mouth and say, "There’s something I want to ask your help with."
Qin Muni lightly raised her eyebrows, indicating for her to continue.
As soon as those three words were spoken, a light sharper than a blade flashed in Qin Muni’s eyes.
"Mrs. Zhang, my father only has one daughter, since when did he have a son?" In the questioning tone was undisguised disgust at Zhao Yaru’s use of "brother" to describe him.
Qin Muni’s resolute demarcation left Zhao Yaru feeling distressed and powerless. She painfully called Qin Muni once more, "Munni. Chu Feng’s father entrusted him to me before he passed away. I can’t just watch as something happens to him."
Unexpectedly, her biological mother, whom she hadn’t seen in years, had come to her for the sake of someone with no blood relation to her.
Qin Muni’s feelings of grievance and resentment mixed with years of blame toward Zhao Yaru burned fiercely like a fire.
"What right do you have to ask for my help? The one who proudly insisted on cutting ties was you! Why now come back to me like a beggar?
Brother? Haha, he’s someone with no blood relation to me! What does it matter to me if he lives or dies? Why should I help him?"
Her voice was as sharp as a chill of winter wind, each word whistling past Zhao Yaru’s ear, the harshness rendering Zhao Yaru pale and embarrassed.
The surrounding customers, upon hearing Qin Muni’s voice, cast curious glances at them.
