Rong Xiaoyi immediately shook her head, “I don’t know her.”
She clutched the strap of her backpack tightly, feeling panicked and scared, she lowered her head, bracing herself to walk outside.
The men didn’t bother with her, continuing to ask people if they knew Rong Xiaoyi.
“Rong Xiaoyi! Someone’s looking for you in the classroom, saying they want to books to you!”
Rong Xiaoyi was terrified and started to run faster towards the school gate.
But, those men had already reacted and began to chase her.
“Is it the Rong Xiaoyi we were looking for just now?” Han asked suspiciously.
“It should be,” Lin Qi replied.
“Why are those people trying to catch her?”
No one could answer Han’s question.
Huo Tingdong frowned, “The security here is terrible.”
“Let’s go check on that kid, besides, Xiao Jun’s books are still with me, I forgot to give them, we might as well give them to that girl.” Lin Qi said.
The three kids had just about finished eating and followed them to the school gate.
By this time, those men had already caught Rong Xiaoyi, holding her arms trying to drag her into a van.
Rong Xiaoyi was terrified, constantly screaming, but no one dared to step forward.
Those men looked very tough to handle.
Huo Tingdong’s expression darkened, “What are you doing?”
“Mind your own business!” one of the men glared at him, “We know this kid’s brother.”
“Who are you to interfere with our business?”
The men exchanged glances, released Rong Xiaoyi, and moved towards Huo Tingdong, eager to fight.
Temporarily rescued, Rong Xiaoyi didn’t think twice and rushed straight into Huo Tingdong’s arms.
She knew this uncle was willing to save her, so she held him tightly, refusing to let go.
Huo Tingdong was slightly taken aback.
He couldn’t help thinking about Yinyin. This little girl, so weak, seeking safety by diving into his embrace, reminded him of his daughter. He tightened his arms to protect this poor child.
Behind Huo Tingdong, Lin Qi was somewhat worried about the situation facing him, as the opponents seemed to have several people and didn’t look friendly.
From the side, Han commented slowly, “They’re done for.”
“Who’s done for?” Lin Qi grew more nervous.
Momo answered her question, “Those people are done for.”
Lin Qi blinked, “They seem very strong.”
Han, “They likely can’t win.”
Momo, “They definitely can’t win.”
Junjun pondered, “Maybe ten more of them might stand a chance.”
Han hummed twice, “I think they’d need thirty more.”
Momo said nothing, seemingly calculating the exact number.
The little ones weren’t worried about Huo Tingdong at all.
As it turned out, they were right.
Those men only looked formidable; on average, none of them lasted more than three moves against Huo Tingdong before being easily taken down.
Huo Tingdong turned to Lin Qi and said, “Call the police.”
Lin Qi snapped out of it, pulled out her phone, and dialed 110.
At the police station.
Rong Xiaoyi was visibly terrified, her eyes somewhat vacant. After Huo Tingdong went to discuss with the police, she stayed by Lin Qi’s side, gripping her clothes tightly, afraid she’d be left behind.
Lin Qi gently comforted her, “It’s alright now, those bad guys have been subdued.”
Rong Xiaoyi nodded silently.
“Where is your family? Should I call them for you?”
Rong Xiaoyi shook her head.
Because her brother had instructed her not to give his contact information to anyone.
They were always avoiding debts, so Rong Xiaoyi didn’t dare tell anyone their contacts, even though she knew the uncles and aunts were good people.
Lin Qi asked, “They said they know your brother, are they causing trouble for you and your brother? Where are your parents?”
That question probably hit a sore spot, as Rong Xiaoyi’s eyes instantly turned red, with tears falling drop by drop. She opened her mouth to speak but couldn’t utter a word.
Seeing this, Han handed her two tissues, “Problems can all be solved, but tears are very precious, each drop is blood condensed! You think you’re crying tears, but it’s really blood!”
Rong Xiaoyi was scared, looking blankly at Han, and dared not cry anymore.
Momo elegantly rolled her eyes, “Is that how you comfort a girl? You scared her.”
Han, “I was just speaking the truth, okay?”
“She doesn’t need the truth right now.”
“Then what does she need?”
Just then, Junjun appropriately appeared, offering a cup of warm water to Rong Xiaoyi, “Have some water.”
Rong Xiaoyi took it and said very softly, “Thank you.”
This was the first thing Rong Xiaoyi had said since the incident.
Momo raised an eyebrow, “See? That’s what she needed.”
Han let out a humph and immediately ran to grab a bottle of juice to offer Rong Xiaoyi.
Rong Xiaoyi’s eyes, still shiny from crying, looked at him but seemed a bit at a loss, holding the paper cup of hot water from Junjun, not intending to take the juice.
Han felt very frustrated, “You don’t like juice?”
Rong Xiaoyi shook her head, “Cold, cold…”
Han finally noticed that Rong Xiaoyi, earlier frightened, had sweated a lot, and her clothes and hair were a bit damp. With time, it was normal for her to feel cold and wet, which is why Junjun had given her hot water.
Han tapped his own small head, “I wasn’t thoughtful enough this time.”
Junjun, “The thought is what counts, right, Xiaoyi.”
Rong Xiaoyi nodded vigorously.
At that moment, a child’s stomach suddenly let out a ‘grrr’ sound, seemingly from hunger.
Momo first looked at Han, who spread his hands innocently and looked at Junjun beside him, who shook his head. Eventually, all three of their gazes fell on Rong Xiaoyi.
They definitely couldn’t say it was her stomach hungry enough to growl, otherwise, she’d be embarrassed. Girls are very shy.
Han spoke up, “Mom, I’m hungry.”
Lin Qi looked up at the clock on the wall, “It’s indeed getting late. Xiaoyi, are you hungry? How about having something to eat?”
Rong Xiaoyi nodded a bit shyly.
She didn’t dare admit it, but she was the one truly hungry.
Lin Qi stood up, “You three boys take good care of Xiaoyi, I’ll quickly get some food.”
“Okay,” Momo replied.
“I want to go with Mom!” Han stretched out his hand to hold Lin Qi’s.
Lin Qi gently held his small hand, “Let’s go.”
As Lin Qi and Han left, Momo and Junjun stood by Rong Xiaoyi’s side, one on each side, which made her feel secure yet somewhat uneasy. She rarely got so close to boys, and the same went for girls.
She didn’t have many friends in her class.
Feeling bored, Junjun started a casual chat with Momo, “Did you see today’s test paper?”
“I did, it was too easy.”
“I’m thinking of talking to the teacher, asking for a different paper next time, a more challenging one, what do you think?”
“Han definitely won’t like it.”
Rong Xiaoyi listened, feeling a bit puzzled.
