Yao Tang’s gaze drifted to Xu Hong’s gaping mouth. “Since you’re so sure that my pills are poisonous, why don’t you give it a try yourself?”
With her free hand, she reached into her pocket and took a pill out of the bottle.
Xu Hong struggled harder at the sight of it, her face twisted in horror.
“No, no! I don’t want to eat any of your vile stuff! It’s going to kill me! I don’t want it!”
She tried shaking her head from side to side to prevent Yao Tangfrom putting it in her mouth.
But the girl was unbelievably strong. Her fingers moved and clamped down on Xu Hong’s jaw, holding the woman in place.
She tossed the pill down the woman’s throat, then tossed the woman aside like she was a sack of trash.
Xu Hong tried to spit the pill out by gagging, but it was too late.
The pill was already in her stomach. A sweet aftertaste lingered on her tongue.
Xu Hong quickly calmed herself and decided not to worry about it for now. The girl had been so confident when she forced the pill on her, so this must be a part of her bluff, as well.
If anything, she was more furious about the added humiliation she had suffered.
Xu Hong opened her mouth to speak, but she could only get a croak out. All of a sudden, her throat felt hot, as though a basin of scalding, hot water had been poured into it.
The color drained from the woman’s face. She unwittingly clawed at her throat, desperate to get rid of the burning sensation.
The height of torture lasted for just a few seconds, but it felt like an eternity to Xu Hong. Her whole body was drenched in sweat, and she was panting heavily. Still, the burning feeling never disappeared.
At this point, everyone was gawking at her, horrified at her strange behavior.
They had all seen Yao Tangpop a pill into her mouth, but they had no idea about its effects. They could only watch asXu Hongclutched her throat, not understanding what was happening to her.
They initially thought that she was in pain, but she didn’t scream at all, not even a squeak. And yet, her face had gone deathly pale, and her forehead was mottled with sweat.
Unbeknownst to them, it wasn’t that Xu Hongdidn’t want to scream in agony—she simply couldn’t.
She turned to her husband with desperate, pleading eyes. Her gaze startled Liu Zhiback to his senses, and he quickly rushed over. “Xu Hong, are you all right? How do you feel? Hurry and tell me!”
But she could do nothing more than shake her head helplessly.
“Xu Hong, say something,” Liu Zhisaid anxiously. “What’s wrong, huh? Are you in pain anywhere?”
She was jostling her around so much that, for a moment, Xu Hong’s fury trumped over her pain. Even then, she couldn’t do anything about it.
She pointed at her throat, trying to tell her husband that she was unable to speak.
Thankfully, Liu Zhi was able to get the message. “You… You can’t speak?”
Xu Hong nodded frantically and pointed atYao Tangnext, indicating that it was her fault.Yao Tangdid this to her.
Liu Zhi jumped to his feet and glared atYao Tang, his eyes blazing with murderous intent. “Tell me, what, exactly, did you do to my wife?”
“Hmm?” Yao Tangasked nonchalantly.
She crossed her arms over her chest and spoke slowly. “Aren’t you glad that I gave her the chance to experience the effects of my medicine first-hand?”
To the side, Xu Xuanfrowned, her expression becoming a complex mix of emotions.
Qin Jing, on the other hand, was trying to hold back her laughter.
Each had formed their individual presumptions about the drug after seeing Xu Hong’s reaction.
“And you call yourself a doctor?” Liu Zhisneered atYao Tang. “You’re obviously doing more harm than good! What did you do to my wife?”
He strode toward Yao Tangand reached for her. He wanted to pin her to the ground and beat the living daylights out of her to avengeXu Hong.
But the girl was too nimble for him, and she dodged his hand before it could even make contact.
Then, in one swift motion, Yao Tangsidestepped and grabbed his arm, then threw her to the floor with a loud crash.
“Your wife talks too much,” she told Liu Zhi. “As her husband, you should have taken responsibility and told her to shut up.Grandma Xuis not feeling well, and she needs to rest.”
She narrowed her eyes before adding, “Well, then. Do you think that my pills are poison, too?”
