The Billionaire Stands Up for Me Chapter 16

He stopped, turned to look at me, and humorously reminded me.

I looked cautious and glanced up at him, "You are our esteemed guest; the customer is king..."

"But I still prefer to be a person."

His humorous response made me couldn’t help but smile, and I relaxed a lot, "Alright, I remember that."

"Thank you for your trouble today, Miss Miller. Goodbye." Daniel Carter’s manners were impeccable, and every word he spoke was pleasing to hear.

After bidding farewell to me, he didn’t forget to instruct the driver, "Uncle Grant, steadier on the road, and ensure that Miss Miller and her company return safely."

Daniel Carter smiled and nodded at me, turned around, and got into the Audi A8 whose door had already been opened.

With his powerful and noble status, his car was only an Audi A8?

No wonder the outside world was full of rumors that the Carter Family was low-key and mysterious.

On the road down the mountain, Daniel Carter’s car was always ahead of us.

Cherry looked out the car window, admiring the scenery of Brindlewood.

My mind was somewhat cluttered, and my eyes inadvertently watched the car in front, while my right hand unconsciously clenched and moved.

The sensation of touching him flashed through my mind, and I suddenly realized I was a bit perverted—as if like some female hooligan recalling such things?

My cheeks inexplicably burned, I spread my right hand and rubbed it on my knee, then cleared my thoughts and looked out the window again.

The two cars always kept a distance of about fifty meters; occasionally turning a corner, the car in front would disappear, and with it, my heart felt briefly lost.

But when the Red Flag turned, that car would reappear in sight, still unhurried and steady.

The sun was just right, the forest lush and green.

The dappled, swaying shadows of trees cast upon the sleek black paint of the car ahead, with light and shadow flowing seamlessly, just like the aura surrounding that person—noble, introverted, making one envious.

In terms of price and grade, the Red Flag L5 was naturally a cut above the rest.

But for some reason, thinking of Daniel Carter sitting in that car made me feel it was the most noble, unique in the world.

After descending the mountain, the Audi A8 honked once and then quickly accelerated, disappearing from sight.

I was dazed for a moment before realizing that honk was Daniel Carter greeting me, a way of saying goodbye.

My heart suddenly sped up.

Couldn’t believe that a family of such honor and prominence produced a descendant without any arrogance.

Instead, he was extremely approachable and very polite.

My goodwill towards the Carter Family increased by several levels.

If I hadn’t fallen out with Adrian Gordon, I would have called him, to tell him Daniel Carter was not the kind of person who bullies others or relies on ancestral glory like a playboy.

Returning from Brindlewood, I was burdened with a heap of work.

I had no time to deal with Adrian Gordon and Sophie Miller’s mess, working overtime to focus on drawing design sketches.

Until one morning I woke up and saw a reminder on my phone’s memo.

I was stunned for a moment, remembering that the time to finalize my divorce from Adrian Gordon had arrived.

While washing up, I called Adrian Gordon.

Unexpectedly, it was Sophie Miller who answered the phone.

"Sis, why are you looking for Brother Adrian?" Sophie Miller asked me, her tone tinged with jealousy.

I frowned, thinking this was not good.

"Don’t misunderstand, I’m looking for him for the divorce; this afternoon at two, tell him to be at the civil affairs bureau on time."

"Divorce?" Sophie Miller was shocked.

"Yes, you didn’t think by stealing my wedding you’d actually become his wife, did you? In the eyes of the law, you’re just an interloper."

I thought Sophie Miller would be left without words, but she retorted without hesitation, "In the world of feelings, it’s the one not loved that’s the interloper."

I was taken aback, then laughed coldly, "Sophie Miller, you’ve finally shown your true colors."

All these years, she pretended to be innocent, weak, and pitiful.

Even when I was scolded, beaten, or punished severely, she pleaded for me, acting all soft-hearted and kind.

Now she’s finally stopped pretending.

"What true colors? I’ve always been ; you’re the one who can’t stand me." Sophie Miller continued her brazen talk.

"Forget it, I don’t want to argue with you; just make sure to tell Adrian Gordon not to miss the appointment this afternoon. It’s hard to schedule, and if he doesn’t go, it’ll drag on for another half month."

I was about to hang up after saying this, but Sophie Miller called me again.

"Lily Miller, has Adrian Gordon been looking for you these days?"

Her voice suddenly turned stern, calling out her ’partner’ with full name, filled with a gunpowder smell.

I was stunned, detecting they had a falling out, and felt a bit schadenfreude, "He did look for me, why?"

"Lily Miller, have you no shame! He is my husband, you two sneaking around, how is it different from adultery?" Sophie Miller suddenly burst into anger, hurling insults.

I couldn’t believe it and shot back, "It’s you two who are having an affair, isn’t it? What does it have to do with me? Is your cancer in your brain?"

"Lily Miller, you cursed me, you won’t die a good death! I know you..."

Sophie Miller didn’t stop cursing, but I was too lazy to deal with it, "Get Adrian Gordon to divorce me sooner, then you two can shake off the label of adultery, understand?"

Hanging up, I was just left feeling vexed. Newest update provided by novᴇlfire.net

Dealing with such a jinx early in the morning.

After washing up and having a simple breakfast, I drove to the office.

On the way, Adrian Gordon called me.

I was irritated seeing the call but had to answer thinking about the divorce matters needing discussion.

"Lily, did you call me this morning?" Adrian Gordon’s tone was gentle, as if returning to when we were deeply in love.

"Yes, see you at the civil affairs bureau at two this afternoon." I said concisely, ready to hang up.

"Lily!" Adrian Gordon suddenly called me, "I’m very busy today; I don’t have time this afternoon."

As expected, just as I’d anticipated, he didn’t want to divorce, intentionally delaying.

"Adrian Gordon, we had a love affair, can’t we separate amicably? With Sophie Miller , shouldn’t you give her a sense of security sooner?"

Speaking of Sophie Miller, Adrian Gordon took the opportunity to ask, "Did you fight when you called her this morning?"

"What, Sophie Miller poured out her misery to you again? Do you want to seek justice for her?" I sarcastically retorted.

"No... I left my phone in the ward this morning, didn’t expect her to answer my call."

"Husband and wife are one; it’s normal for her to answer your phone."

Adrian Gordon suddenly fell silent.

I didn’t know what was going on between him and Sophie Miller, most probably a conflict, but I didn’t care and didn’t want to be involved.

"Please be there at two in the afternoon." Leaving those words, I decisively ended the call.

Despite my repeated emphasis, Adrian Gordon still stood me up.

I waited outside the civil affairs bureau until two-thirty, but he didn’t show up.

When I called, no one answered.

I got angry, feeling like wearing the title "Mrs. Gordon" was like Monkey King wearing the gold-banded hoop, the more I thought about it, the angrier I got.

I called Shirley Turner, wanting her to pressure Adrian Gordon for a faster divorce.

Unexpectedly, that call ignited an explosive situation.

"Lily Miller, I haven’t held you accountable, yet you dare call me? What are you up to? Sophie is frail; I can’t take care of her enough, yet you dare call to quarrel with her! I know you hate me, come at me if you dare, see if I don’t rip your mouth apart!"
