The Billionaire Stands Up for Me Chapter 6

"Lily, if anything happens to her, let’s see how you explain yourself!" Adrian Gordon warned me with a grim face, holding Sophie Miller as he turned and hastily walked away.

I stood in a daze for quite a while, my mind filled with Adrian Gordon’s furious and ruthless expression towards me.

The once-upon-a-time vows of love seemed especially ironic at this moment—exactly when did he change his heart? I hadn’t noticed at all.

I was trapped in a deep abyss of pain until Cherry came in, concernedly asking if I was alright, jolting me back to consciousness.

It’s not worth being sad and pained over this scumbag, so I pulled myself together to continue working.

Nearing noon, my phone rang.

I saw it was Shirley Turner calling, and I immediately hung up.

Before long, the phone rang again.

This time, it was my father calling.

Suspicion rose in my heart, could it be that Sophie Miller couldn’t hold on? Had she died?

After hesitating for a few seconds, I still answered the call.

Unexpectedly, as soon as I put the phone to my ear, my dad’s thunderous roar startled my eardrums much like a lion’s roar.

"Lily! You’re simply heartless! Sophie’s health is already fragile, yet you hit her and pushed her to the ground!"

I put the phone aside, waiting for him to finish shouting, before quietly saying, "There are surveillance cameras in my office, I can show you the truth." Nᴇw novel chapters are publɪshed on NoveI-Fire.ɴet

But I know that even if they see it, they’ll still blame me for everything.

Sure enough, my dad brazenly said, "Does the truth matter? What matters is your sister was terminally ill, and you didn’t care for her or show even a hint of consideration!"

I didn’t bother arguing, knowing that saying more would only waste my breath.

Seeing me silent, my dad realized there was no point in scolding further, he paused and then continued, "Sophie’s wish is for you to be the witness at her wedding. Since you’re free that day anyway, just do her this favor."

"If you’re not afraid I’ll ruin her wedding, I’ll go."

My dad was silent for a moment, then said, "Don’t you want the company shares? As long as you dutifully serve as the witness, I’ll transfer those shares that belonged to your mom to you."

Over the years, I had used countless methods to fight for those shares that belonged to my mom but hadn’t secured even a fraction.

Now he’s willing to give them all to me?

"Transfer half to my name first, and after the wedding is over, the remaining half." Fearing he’d play tricks, I made my request.

"... Fine, as you wish." My dad hesitated before agreeing, then grit his teeth and added, "You’re just as greedy as your mother."

I didn’t show weakness: "It’s better than being heartless like you."

Sophie’s fall made her already weak condition worse.

Until the wedding day, she could barely get out of bed to walk.

The wedding dress I personally tailored was made to measure according to my proportions.

Sophie had lost a lot of weight due to her illness, making the dress too large around the chest and waist.

"Lily’s skills are nothing special, she brags about winning so many international prizes but can’t even get the dress size right." Shirley Turner looked at the wedding dress on her daughter with disdain and complained.

I sarcastically retorted, "This dress was originally tailored for my figure. If you want to snatch someone else’s things, don’t be picky."

"Mom..." Sophie gently held Shirley Turner, speaking softly. "Don’t blame my sister, it’s no problem if it’s a bit loose, it’s more convenient to wear and take off."

After Sophie spoke, she turned and smiled warmly at me, "Sister, thank you for fulfilling my dream."

I felt nauseated and wanted to go outside for some air.

Unexpectedly, just as I reached the door, I saw Adrian Gordon approaching.

He wore a tailored suit, looking handsome and fresh, with an elegance that captured the attention of the passing guests.

The wedding suit was also a piece I personally designed and made for him. Seeing him wearing it felt like a slap in the face.

"Lily..." Adrian Gordon softly called to me.

I ignored him, rolling my eyes as I prepared to sidestep away, when my father’s voice came from behind, "Where are you going? The wedding is about to start, your sister doesn’t have the strength, go support her."

I turned around, looked at the room full of people, and incredulously asked, "Me support her?"

Shirley Turner replied, "You’re the witness and her sister, what’s wrong with supporting your sibling?"

I was furious and hadn’t yet spoken when Adrian Gordon chimed in, "Lily, you pushed Sophie down last time, her condition worsened, the dress’s hem is too long and heavy, she—"

Unable to endure his shamelessness any longer, I turned cold, hastily charging back.

Sophie raised her arm, as if she were the Queen Mother and I was just a Granny.

"Thank you, sister..." After she placed her arm over mine, Sophie smiled in appreciation, which I felt was her proud showing-off.

Anyhow, the spirits of black and white are already standing by her side, I’ll consider this an act of charity for my own future, I will endure!

The elegant and grand wedding march resounded throughout the golden hall, the tall and grand gates of the venue slowly opened to both sides, the spotlights gathered, focusing on me and Sophie.

I grit my teeth tightly, holding my breath as if under the weight of Mount Everest, unable to breathe properly.

Under the watchful eyes, I supported Sophie’s arm, step by step along the red carpet.

As soon as I appeared, I clearly felt the uproar across the hall, all the guests showed shock, whispering amongst themselves.

"What’s going on? Isn’t Eldest Miss Miller the bride? Why is Second Miss Miller in the wedding dress?"

"Yeah! Did they get the bride wrong?"

"Bride becomes a bridesmaid? What kind of joke is the Miller Family playing?"

I listened to the chatter, suppressing the humiliation and anger within, escorting Sophie to the other end of the red carpet.

There stood Adrian Gordon, elegantly noble, his handsome face subtly excited, his eyes seemingly moist with tears?

He didn’t look my way, that eager gaze clearly focused on Sophie.

The pain in my heart exploded again, spreading like a poison mist throughout my organs.

I found it hard to believe this was the man I gave everything to love for eight years!

His words claimed it was all to fulfill Sophie’s wish, so she could depart without regrets, but why did I feel—he truly wanted to marry, the one he was truly in love with, was Sophie?

Tears unknowingly filled my eyes, blurring the scene before me, I could only instinctively deliver Sophie’s hand.

Adrian Gordon reached out to take it, tenderly hugging Sophie’s body, the two gazing deeply at each other, stepping onto the stage together.

I turned around, sat back in the front row below the stage.

I thought my heart had already grown numb, that I could view this wedding like an outsider watching a joke, but unexpectedly, I was still weak, suffering such painful embarrassment.

A clean and slender hand appeared beside me, extending toward me, holding a handkerchief.

The owner of the hand didn’t speak, uninterested in looking back at the person, I took the handkerchief and hoarsely said, "Thank you..."

"You’re welcome." A deep and pleasing voice pierced through the surrounding noise, cool and crisp, "Not marrying you is his misfortune and short life."
