These days, for a woman to build a career, she needs more than just excellent skills. Her appearance can’t be unattractive either. Otherwise, she might not even get a foot in the door.
Today was the final round of tests. This company was quite open-minded: they evaluated candidates on the spot and announced the results immediately. It was a one-shot deal, no underhanded tricks.
There were still six interviewers on the panel, but the composition was reversed this time: five women and one man. The woman in the center, likely in her fifties, wore red lipstick, a pearl necklace, and a silver-gray suit. She exuded a distinct charisma.
All eyes fell on Yan Xixi. Even the other women couldn’t help but marvel at her.
The interviewer with the pearl necklace cleared her throat. "If a customer is buying a ten-million-dollar house from you but demands you spend the night with him, what would you, as the salesperson, do?"
That was today’s interview question, and also the final one.
The male candidate was the first to answer, laughing as he said, "I would never agree. For a man, integrity comes first. I’ve never heard of any man achieving great success by selling his body. Men must rely on genuine ability; there’s no future in selling oneself."
Female candidate A answered, "I would absolutely never spend the night with a customer."
Female candidate B replied, "Many women nowadays like to take shortcuts, but I don’t intend to do that."
Female candidate C said, "Money is important, true, but people should have their principles, especially women."
Then it was Yan Xixi’s turn. All eyes were on her.
She calmly replied, "If I were certain it would seal the deal, I would agree to spend the night with the customer. However, it would depend on the situation. If the man seems decent, I’d arrange for an attractive lady to attend to him. If he’s a scoundrel, I’d secretly call his wife."
The lead interviewer looked at her strangely, staring intently. "Miss Yan," she asked, "does that mean you would do anything for money?"
With an unfaltering smile, Yan Xixi said, "Companies hire employees to generate profit, not to set moral examples or be paragons of chastity. We come to work to earn money, don’t we? If there were no money involved, who would fight tooth and nail for a nine-to-five job?"
The interviewers exchanged glances, and then all their eyes, as one, fixed back on Yan Xixi.
Yan Xixi’s expression remained composed, her smile unwavering.
"We will deliberate for a moment and inform you all of the results in five minutes."
Everyone filed out of the room.
The wait felt interminable. The male candidate busied himself with his phone, occasionally glancing at Yan Xixi. The three female candidates also seemed restless but didn’t converse with each other.
