“Hello, Kai, you’re finally willing to answer my call.” A gentle voice came from the other end of the phone after a few seconds.
“Xin, tell me where Wang Kai is. Release him.” Ye Shikai said coldly; he never imagined that Wang Kai was really kidnapped by her.
“I won’t tell unless you beg me.” Chen Yuxin said playfully, giggling like a mischievous little girl.
There was silence on the other end of the line for several seconds.
“I’m begging you, can you tell me now?” Ye Shikai took a deep breath, trying to sound calm.
“Fine, I will come to pick you up.” Chen Yuxin replied with a light smile, her tone revealing a trace of satisfaction.
“No need, send me the address. I’ll come by myself.” After speaking coldly, Ye Shikai hung up the phone. Chen Yuxin’s concept of love was too extreme; her current actions had only one purpose—to “win” Ye Shikai back. And once she lost, there was no chance for her to win him back again. She couldn’t afford to lose.
Ye Shikai sighed deeply. The former Chen Yuxin was like the girl next door, gentle and graceful, even somewhat timid. How could she have become what she was now? This was something Ye Shikai couldn’t accept, especially now, as she even kidnapped his good friend to threaten him.
“Where is he? Take me to him.” As soon as Ye Shikai arrived in the hotel lobby, he saw Chen Ruoya waiting for him respectfully. Ye Shikai was direct and to the point.
“Please follow me, Mr. Ye.” Chen Ruoya gestured invitingly and led Ye Shikai into a room. Inside, a woman sat gracefully on a sofa with a light smile, yet seemingly deep in thought.
“Xin, I’m here. Let him go now.” Ye Shikai spoke coldly. No matter what Chen Yuxin had become, he needed to save Wang Kai first. At this moment, Ye Shikai still harbored a glimmer of hope that Chen Yuxin would consider their past relationship and not do anything outrageous. If it came to it, he was even willing to kneel and beg her.
“Kai, don’t rush. Please, sit down and have a cup of coffee first.” Chen Yuxin said lightly, inviting Ye Shikai to sit down. “I really didn’t expect your friend to be a wanted murderer.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Ye Shikai trembled slightly, deeply shocked. How did Chen Yuxin find out about this? Even the National Security Bureau didn’t know about Wang Kai killing those five thugs. Although he was shocked, Ye Shikai tried to appear calm.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, but please don’t slander my friend.” Ye Shikai took a sip of coffee and said lightly.
“Ha ha, Kai, your acting is really terrible.” Chen Yuxin waved her hand and a maid respectfully handed over a stack of photos, placing them in front of the two.
Ye Shikai casually flipped through a few, and in the photos, Wang Kai, dressed in black, was walking out of an alleyway. At the corner, his profile was exposed, and the timestamp showed the evening of the day of the incident.
Where did these photos come from? Ye Shikai felt a chill. If previously there was no evidence of Wang Kai’s crime, now it was conclusive. But how did Chen Yuxin get these photos?
“Kai, do you still want to deny it?” Chen Yuxin smiled faintly, slowly sitting beside Ye Shikai. “This is really about keeping the wrong company. Let me help you handle this.”
“Don’t.” Ye Shikai instinctively grabbed Chen Yuxin’s arm. “Don’t do this.”
“Kai, I’m doing this for you. Walking with a murderer will bring trouble. Let me turn him in to the National Security Bureau.”
“Don’t you dare.” After hearing this, Ye Shikai suddenly stood up, yelling loudly, “As long as I’m here, I dare you to try.”
“Xin, I didn’t expect you to be so shrewd now.” Ye Shikai scolded angrily. “You have no reason to target Wang Kai. You’re bringing this up just to threaten me, aren’t you?”
“Chen Yuxin, you have deeply disappointed me.”
Ye Shikai sat on the sofa, hands cradling his head, looking agonized; he was nearly at breaking point. The maid left the room, leaving only him and Chen Yuxin.
Ten minutes passed, Chen Yuxin looked at Ye Shikai with a grave expression; neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere was silent.
“Kai.” Chen Yuxin whispered softly, leaning forward, trying to rest her head on Ye Shikai’s shoulder, but he pushed her away.
“Kai, I know you don’t understand in your heart, you might even hate me.” Chen Yuxin said quietly, her voice gradually becoming choked up. “But you don’t understand what kind of life I’ve had these years.”
“You think I’m scheming, sinister, but do you think I want to be ? If I were as clean as a blank sheet of paper, how could I survive in the family? I probably would’ve never seen you again.” Tears suddenly poured from Chen Yuxin’s eyes as she threw herself into Ye Shikai’s arms, but this time, he didn’t stop her…
“I’m really so tired.” Chen Yuxin cried. “I’ve been with you for so many years, I’ve grown used to living in dependence on you. But do you know what I went through later?”
“I’ve endured for so long, just to have the chance to meet you again. I really don’t want to lose you anymore.”
Ye Shikai neither rejected nor accepted her, simply being a listener. He understood Chen Yuxin but didn’t agree with her. Maybe, as the saying goes, humans can plan, but heaven decides. They ended up not being together—perhaps it was simply not meant to be.
“I won’t let go, Kai. One day, you will understand my feelings now. I believe when that day comes, you will forgive me.” Chen Yuxin said firmly. After hearing this, Ye Shikai had a foreboding feeling.
Chen Yuxin took out a document from the drawer and placed it on the table. Ye Shikai only glanced at the title before pushing her away.
“A marriage agreement.” Ye Shikai exclaimed in surprise, wondering if she was actually trying to force a marriage on him.
“Just sign it.” Chen Yuxin slammed down a pen on the table, resolute.
Ye Shikai’s hands trembled as he quickly glanced over the marriage agreement, then he laughed scornfully, “Xin, you should have known since we were kids that what I hate most is being threatened.”
“Even if you’re detested by me, today I’m going to force you anyway.” Chen Yuxin turned away, firm in her resolve.
“Xin, Qingyu and I are legally married. If I don’t divorce her, even if I sign this, the agreement is just a piece of paper.” Ye Shikai sneered. “I won’t get a divorce.”
