Ye Wanwan’s hair was disheveled by the wind, and her clothes were covered in dust from head to toe, looking utterly bedraggled.
What had happened to her?
Shen Yi’s brows were tightly furrowed, and he wore a serious expression, subconsciously quickening his pace as he walked towards Ye Wanwan. However, Ye Wanwan mistakenly believed that Shen Yi’s stern expression stemmed from his dissatisfaction with her losing the documents.
Ye Wanwan couldn’t help feeling aggrieved, but she still lowered her head with tear-rimmed eyes and apologized, "I’m sorry!"
She didn’t know how important the documents she had lost were, but by Shen Yi’s expression, they must have been very, very important; otherwise, he wouldn’t have looked so solemn.
However, Shen Yi seemed to not have heard her at all, only noticing the abrasion on the palm of Ye Wanwan’s hand, from which traces of blood seeped out, mingled with dust—a clear sign that it was a scrape from falling to the ground.
"You’re hurt?" Shen Yi disregarded Ye Wanwan’s apology, steadying her shoulders as he prepared to examine her.
"How did you fall?" Shen Yi asked in a grave voice.
With her head lowered, Ye Wanwan explained the incident with great self-reproach, "I was coming out of the coffee shop, planning to go to the company to find you first, and then someone on a motorbike charged at me and snatched the documents away!"
"Shen Yi, did I cause trouble for you?" As she spoke, Ye Wanwan’s voice began to quiver with tears.
Her tearful cry was laced with self-blame, fear, and the pain from her recent fall.
Shen Yi’s brows were tightly knit, and a chill emanated from him, clearly visible to any observant onlooker that he was desperately restraining his anger.
After a long while, he took a deep breath, reached out to tidy Ye Wanwan’s hair, disheveled by the wind.
While doing so, he consoled her, "It’s okay, as long as you’re not hurt."
"Did you get hurt anywhere else?" Shen Yi wished to check himself, but he couldn’t just lift up Ye Wanwan’s clothes in the middle of a public area, so he asked instead.
Ye Wanwan shook her head, but at that moment, she genuinely didn’t know where else she might be injured; all her attention was focused on the documents that had been stolen.
She had come with good intentions to deliver the documents, hoping to save Shen Yi and the others some time, but now even the documents were lost!
Although Shen Yi said it didn’t matter, deep down she knew he was only trying to comfort her.
Seeing Ye Wanwan still blaming herself, unaware she was injured, Shen Yi felt rather helpless.
Shen Yi then stopped asking questions, lifted her in his arms, and with long strides, headed towards the company under the heavy rain.
Shen Yi set her down on the small sofa, then stood up to pull the blinds shut, before returning to Ye Wanwan’s side.
"Let’s see where else you’re injured," he said. As he spoke, Shen Yi knelt down in front of Ye Wanwan.
Shen Yi examined her carefully. Ye Wanwan’s right elbow and the inner side of her left forearm were scraped, but the injuries weren’t severe due to the protection of her clothing.
Her knees hadn’t been cut, but the bruise that was forming looked rather ghastly against her fair skin, turning purple.
Her palm had been scraped directly against the ground; the blood marks weren’t deep, but tiny beads of blood oozed out, mixed with dust and fine grains of sand.
"Wait here for me," Shen Yi said and stood up again, quickly exiting the office.
Ye Wanwan sat there, at a loss, like a child who had done something wrong.
It wasn’t two minutes before Shen Yi returned holding a medical kit.
