Zhouzhou didn’t speak, only holding onto Lin Xu’s neck and making "hmm hmm hmm" sounds with his breathing. His eyes were red and he was turning his little head all around, as if he was looking for something.
Lin Xu didn’t know why Zhouzhou would suddenly act ; he had always been very well-behaved and she had never seen him throw a tantrum before.
"What was Zhouzhou doing just now? Why is he suddenly ?" Lin Xu held Zhouzhou, asking Shen Yun’an with a sense of helplessness.
Shen Yun’an was also frowning, but his face was just as puzzled, "He didn’t do anything."
"Zhouzhou, are you hungry or not feeling well?" Lin Xu held Zhouzhou while soothing him and gently asking.
Zhouzhou looked at his grandmother through tear-filled eyes, then pointed in the direction of the door, indicating he wanted to leave.
Lin Xu and Shen Yun’an exchanged glances, instantly understanding. It seemed that as it had gotten dark, the child instinctively wanted to return to the place he felt most familiar and safest.
"Zhouzhou, don’t cry. Daddy will come to take Zhouzhou home in a little while," Lin Xu comforted him.
No sooner had she spoken than a clap of thunder suddenly boomed outside, followed immediately by Zhouzhou bursting into loud sobs.
Lin Xu and Shen Yun’an then realized that Zhouzhou had gotten scared. Before he had started crying, there had been lightning outside as well.
But the first lightning hadn’t made any noise; it was only the thunder just now that sounded, and even inside the villa, it didn’t seem very loud.
However, Zhouzhou was crying so miserably, his mouth wide open as he wailed loudly, tears gushing out as if they were free, and in just a few short seconds, Zhouzhou’s entire face had turned bright red.
"Zhouzhou isn’t scared, isn’t scared, granny is here, don’t be scared!" Lin Xu hugged Zhouzhou tightly, then signaled to Shen Yun’an to quickly draw the curtains over the floor-to-ceiling window, for Zhouzhou would be scared of the lightning and thunder!
Shen Yun’an, together with the servants, quickly covered the large floor-to-ceiling window across the living room.
With the curtains drawn, the outside could no longer be seen from inside the villa, but even with excellent soundproofing, faint sounds of thunder could still be heard, though they were not frightening.
Yet, Zhouzhou continued to cry uncontrollably, no matter how Lin Xu tried to comfort him, it was no use.
Zhouzhou pointed in the direction of the door, and Lin Xu told him, "It’s raining heavily outside, we can’t go out. Daddy will pick up Zhouzhou very soon."
But Zhouzhou kept stubbornly pointing towards the door and even started to say in his unclear speech, "Go! Go!"
Normally, hearing Zhouzhou speak should have been a joyful event, but in this moment, with Zhouzhou crying and making a fuss, Lin Xu and Shen Yun’an were too distraught to feel happy.
Seeing that no one was taking him away, Zhouzhou struggled forcefully in Lin Xu’s arms.
He was already two years old and as he struggled in Lin Xu’s arms, she couldn’t hold onto him. "Zhouzhou, can you be good and not fuss?"
Lin Xu had no choice, worried she might not be able to hold him and that he would fall, so she squatted down to let Zhouzhou stand on his own.
But as soon as Zhouzhou had stood on the ground, he began to toddle off unsteadily towards the outside.
"Zhouzhou!" Lin Xu and Shen Yun’an hurried forward to stop him, with the servants also standing by.
Zhouzhou lost his balance and tumbled to the ground, and Lin Xu quickly picked him up; Zhouzhou continued to cry heartbreakingly, his mouth repeatedly saying, "Go! Go!"
