Ye Wanwan held Zhouzhou tenderly, explaining patiently, "Not so soon, my baby. Daddy will only arrive in the afternoon. We’ll go pick up Daddy after we have lunch."
"I want to go now." Zhouzhou pointed outside, expressing himself with earnest sincerity.
Seeing Zhouzhou’s pitiful look, Ye Wanwan had no choice but to get out of bed and soothe him.
Not until the afternoon did Ye Wanwan wrap Zhouzhou up snugly and set out with him to pick up Shen Yi.
They arrived at the airport just in time, so Ye Wanwan held Zhouzhou at the exit, waiting.
"Daddy will be out soon, Zhouzhou. Keep your eyes peeled," Ye Wanwan reminded him.
Zhouzhou nodded vigorously, then fixed his gaze on the exit.
Waiting for just two or three minutes, Ye Wanwan spotted several figures in the distance. Slightly nærsighted over the past two years, she couldn’t see them clearly but felt it must be Shen Yi.
At that moment, Zhouzhou, unable to contain his excitement, shouted at the top of his lungs, "Daddy! Daddy!"
Because of his excitement, Zhouzhou squirmed in Ye Wanwan’s arms, and she almost couldn’t hold on to him.
It wasn’t until Shen Yi got closer that Ye Wanwan finally let Zhouzhou down, and then Zhouzhou darted towards him.
Shen Yi handed over his luggage to Assistant Chen and, as Zhouzhou approached, crouched down to scoop him up.
In that moment, Zhouzhou was like a looped recording, clinging to Shen Yi and chanting incessantly, "Daddy, Daddy..."
Shen Yi couldn’t help but laugh, "Daddy missed Zhouzhou, too."
While speaking, Shen Yi, still holding Zhouzhou, approached Ye Wanwan. His eyes were filled with longing, as this business trip had taken a full twenty days.
Unable to resist the long-awaited affection, Shen Yi kissed the corner of Ye Wanwan’s lips right there in front of everyone.
Ye Wanwan blushed and whispered, "Let’s get going!"
With a smile, Shen Yi then left the airport with his family of three.
The next day, Shen Yi packed some daily necessities and then took Ye Wanwan and Zhouzhou back to the old family home, since New Year’s was just around the corner.
This year, Ye Zhenhua and Su Xiangyi didn’t join the Shen Family’s old house for the New Year’s celebration; they went on a trip instead.
With servants also on holiday for the New Year, the family made the reunion dinner together, cheerfully enjoying the feast as one.
Zhouzhou had a very regular bedtime and by around nine o’clock, he was already sleepy. Ye Wanwan and Shen Yi then took him upstairs for a bath, before lulling him to sleep.
After Zhouzhou fell asleep, Ye Wanwan and Shen Yi didn’t sleep either. They leaned on each other, chatting about trivial things, until the stroke of midnight when the sky burst into brilliant fireworks.
Ye Wanwan and Shen Yi stepped out onto the balcony. It was snowing outside, and despite Beijing’s ban on fireworks, there were always some who dared to set them off each year.
Watching the fireworks, Ye Wanwan turned to Shen Yi beside her, tiptoed, and whispered in his ear, "Happy New Year!"
"Happy New Year." Shen Yi turned to Ye Wanwan, his eyes brimming with tenderness, and the next second, pulled her into his embrace.
The two shared a kiss among the fireworks and snowscape in the new year.
Today was the first day of the Lunar New Year, and when Shen Yi awoke, Zhouzhou was already up. Seeing that Ye Wanwan was still sound asleep, Shen Yi took Zhouzhou to freshen up first.
Later, Shen Yi didn’t disturb Ye Wanwan, taking Zhouzhou downstairs for breakfast. It wasn’t until nearly ten o’clock, when Ye Wanwan was still not up, that Shen Yi went upstairs to check on her.
