Taozhi was indeed very old by now, and the veterinarians at the pet store all said they’d taken great care of her, as most cats don’t live this long.
Shen Wenzhou carried Taozhi into the living room and went first to check her cat bowl, finding that a lot of the cat food remained uneaten.
He couldn’t help but frown and, bending down, he spoke softly and tenderly to Taozhi in his arms, "Why have you eaten so little?"
Of course, Taozhi couldn’t speak; she just rubbed her head against Shen Wenzhou’s neck.
Since Taozhi couldn’t chew anymore, the cat food had been soaked until soft. This bowl must have been sitting out all afternoon. Shen Wenzhou didn’t let her continue eating it but instead replaced it with fresh cat food.
"Zhouzhou, are you done? It’s time for dinner," Ye Wanwan’s voice suddenly called out.
"All done, I’ll be right there," Shen Wenzhou responded before washing his hands and heading to the dining room.
Ye Wanwan was still wearing an apron at the moment, clearly having been busy in the kitchen.
"I cooked dinner tonight; try it and see how it tastes?" Ye Wanwan said eagerly, her eyes shining.
Shen Wenzhou was fine, but Ye Chaochao couldn’t help but take a deep breath, sensing something was terribly wrong.
For so many years, Ye Wanwan would periodically practice her culinary skills, but perhaps because it was only an occasional affair, her cooking was quite mediocre. Although it was edible and certainly not poisonous, it tasted very, very plain!
Anyone with any kind of standard for meals would find Ye Wanwan’s cooking hard to swallow.
"Mom, Dad’s not back yet; let’s wait for Dad to come home and eat together!" Ye Chaochao was struck with an idea as her eyes lit up.
She didn’t like the food, but someone else might!
"Dad has a dinner engagement tonight and won’t be eating at home," Ye Wanwan explained.
"Huh?" Ye Chaochao momentarily couldn’t control her disappointment, which was plainly visible.
"I tried some things earlier and feel like my cooking has really improved," Ye Wanwan offered as compensation.
Shen Wenzhou had already sat down to eat, leaving Ye Chaochao with no choice but to sit down as well.
After Shen Wenzhou tried a piece of sweet and sour rib, Ye Wanwan asked excitedly, "How is it?"
Shen Wenzhou looked up at his mother with a very gentle smile on his face and nodded seriously, "Mmm, it’s delicious."
"See, I told you I’ve gotten better at cooking!" Ye Wanwan was delighted and then turned to look at Ye Chaochao.
Ye Chaochao also tasted a piece, which was actually a bit too sour, but seeing the hopeful look in Ye Wanwan’s eyes, Ye Chaochao nodded and reluctantly said, "Mom’s cooking is much better than last time!"
Ye Wanwan was very happy, unable to hide the smile on her face.
While eating, Ye Chaochao texted her handsome dad, "Dad, did you deliberately stay away because you knew Mom was cooking dinner tonight?"
Shen Yi must have been busy since he didn’t reply right away. It was several minutes before Ye Chaochao’s phone buzzed.
Ye Chaochao quickly picked up her phone and saw her dad’s reply, "Eat properly, otherwise your mom will be sad."
As if to make it up to his daughter, Shen Yi added, "Dad will bring you a small cake when I come back."
Ye Chaochao was speechless and replied, "Dad! I’m not three years old anymore; I can buy a small cake myself!"
