"There are only two possibilities for them to clean up the hospital so thoroughly, either 1, they overwhelmingly outnumber us, or 2, there are many superpower users. Either way, it’s not good news for us," Li Qian concluded calmly.
Su Mo twitched her ears and whispered, "Lu Chen, hide the car; someone is coming."
The man’s eyes turned cold, and he immediately hid the two combat vehicles and signaled Feng Yao and the others with a gesture. The group then slipped into a small clothing building.
Behind the dirty blue glass, they hid behind a marble pillar as several men who were dressed very revealingly passed by.
Their hairstyles were bizarre, and their faces were painted with multicolored oil paint; they wore only a jacket on top, bare-chested underneath, and camo trousers below.
Their mismatched outfits somehow perfectly matched the temperament of cannibals.
"Why do I smell the scent of living humans?"
The speaker had particularly developed senses, sniffing the air incessantly like a dog.
"Are you stupid? Our food is all here, and today we just happened to bring back some fresh meat, of course, there would be a smell," another person disagreed, pointing toward the small clothing building where Su Mo and the others were hiding.
Su Mo immediately understood what ’food’ and ’fresh meat’ referred to.
"No, I’ve smelled those pieces of fresh meat; they are a bit sour and not very good quality. I’ll go in and check. I always feel there’s some sweet meat inside."
Saying this, the man followed the scent his nose detected and slowly entered the building.
Seeing this, Su Mo spread her palm open, showing the spines brought about by Bok Choy’s augmentation clinging to the surface. She signaled the person beside her and began climbing upward.
Everyone quietly climbed onto the ceiling, and the oddly dressed men walked into the building. The first floor was a hall, scattered with several white marble pillars.
Su Mo hung upside down from above, signaled everyone with her hand, and they all stayed silently on the ceiling, making no sound.
"Can’t you smell that? Such an enticing aroma," the man’s nose sniffed around. Clearly, the smell was so close, yet he circled below the marble pillar where Su Mo was.
"There’s no place to hide people here, and someone is guarding that bunch of meat upstairs. Let’s hurry up," the person behind him urged impatiently, "If we’re late, there won’t be any meat left for me."
"Stop rushing me, I know," he replied.
After making a sweep, under Su Mo’s tense gaze, he began to slightly lift his head.
Her eyes were firmly fixed on the top of his head; the moment he looked up and saw them, she was ready to activate her superpower and blow his head apart.
Outside, the sound of car engines roared, accompanied by several annoyed shouts.
"Hurry up, hurry up! The meat is escaping! Keep up, keep up!"
The dark sky was torn apart by several dazzling Golden Arrows, illuminating the road outside the building with their brightness.
The man who was about to look up immediately diverted his gaze and ran outside, "Quick, quick! Chase it! The meat is getting away!"
The two men left one after the other, and only then did Su Mo let out a sigh of relief, sliding down with her companions along the tall pillars.
"Someone ran away," within the range of Li Qian’s expanded spiritual power, several red dots were chasing one another. However, they were soon captured. He shook his head, "Just a few normal people with unremarkable abilities, they’ve been caught already."
"Let’s move quickly, the hospital is right across. We need to find a way to get there," Su Mo said softly.
A few Golden Arrows, still burning, were stuck in the roof, bringing some light into their darkened view.
"We need to get the people out of the hospital first before we have a chance to get the medicine," Li Qian looked upward at the ceiling, his eyes thoughtful.
Lu Chen asked softly, "Are there people upstairs?"
Li Qian nodded, "About ten people, all ordinary, and they seem to be trapped."
"Two, they didn’t detect my spiritual exploration, their levels aren’t high."
Su Mo’s mind raced, "If we let those people upstairs go, they’ll definitely need time to capture them again."
Feng Yao walked to the dark staircase, looked up, and whispered, "You guys go release them, I’ll distract the people at the hospital."
Lu Chen nodded, "Okay."
With Feng Yao there, even if they were chased, escaping wouldn’t be a problem.
Su Mo handed Feng Yao and the others a few pork meatballs, "Eat these, you’ll have five chances to cause dizziness. Use these if there’s an emergency."
After quickly eating, Feng Yao nodded at Su Mo and then disappeared into the night, avoiding the firelight.
"Changsheng, you and Li Qian stay down here. Lu Chen and I will go up and check."
"What about me, sis?" Jianxiong, who was left behind without knowing what to do, looked frustrated.
Su Mo almost forgot about him as well, "Let’s go together."
The three of them stepped onto the dim spiral staircase and slowly walked up.
On the second floor, the faint sounds of struggling and objects hitting the iron bars reached Su Mo’s ears.
Standing behind the corner on the second floor, through a black fog, Su Mo saw about a dozen iron cages in the hallway.
The air was filled with a foul stench, a mix of urine, sweat, and feces, along with a strong smell of blood which was nauseatingly repulsive.
Her sensitive nose felt like it was undergoing torture at that moment.
As Li Qian had said, each cage contained a person filthy and dirty, but no longer intact.
Dirty bandages wrapped around a man’s severed thigh in one of the cages, wrapped round and round, soaked with fresh red blood, clearly just chopped off not long ago.
It wasn’t just him; most of these people were missing either an arm or a leg, and even more gruesome, she saw a woman without limbs lying in a cage, her brown hair and flesh stuck to her face, her chest blurred as if a pair of breasts had been cut off directly with a blade, presenting a ghastly sight.
The faint rise and fall of her chest let Su Mo know that the poor woman was still alive, she clenched her fists in silence.
Standing at both the starting and end points of the cages were two superpower users with their faces painted like tribal warriors.
Seemingly sensing her gaze, the person closest to her suddenly turned around.
Lu Chen quickly pulled her back into the shadows, shook his head at her, and gestured, one Level 3, one Level 4.
They could not afford to be careless.
Su Mo led the two back to the platform on the first floor and whispered in a very low voice, "Those people in the cages, they can’t be considered whole anymore."
This meant that letting them escape was absolutely impossible; these people had no other option but to wait for death.
"What should we do?" Jianxiong also caught a glimpse of the battered bodies, his anger rising rapidly.
