The Chef Rules the Last Days Chapter 543

She really was a rich young lady, her palms not showing any calluses, holding them gently.

"This is the situation, there are too many people at my place. Su Mo, since you have such a good relationship with the leader of the P City refugee camp, why don’t you join me in distributing alms and aiding the people?"

She wasn’t someone scatterbrained enough to take up such a task. Su Mo let go of her hand and, with a smiling face, cheerily replied, "Sure, Lady Meng, you provide the rice, I provide the chefs, and we both benefit, right?"

"You misunderstood my meaning. I meant for you also to contribute some rice, so we can do some charitable acts together," Meng Shu said, pointing to the group of skinny, sallow people behind her with pity: "Look at how pitiful they are."

"Yes, Miss Su, we are people from the P City refugee camp too, please help us as well!"

Indeed, some ordinary people were also starting to create a stir, their voices growing louder.

Su Mo had already understood, although she didn’t know the reason, that Meng Shu was here to pick a quarrel.

Bullying her because there’s no one in the restaurant capable of fighting back, right?

Su Mo kept her smile and made a pausing gesture, "Hold on, may I ask Lady Meng a few questions first?"

"Where does Lady Meng’s rice come from? Is it extorted from superpower users, or is it skimmed off from your cheap father?"

"I was about to..." Meng Shu barely began speaking when Su Mo grabbed her hand and, with a not-so-smiling face, said:

"Don’t tell me it’s from your own earnings, with not a callus on your palm and nail polish on your fingernails while wearing a skirt; it’s obviously the latter, right? Although living off your father’s clout is a skill, you may get rice for free thanks to your dad but I can’t. Everything in my restaurant is earned through hard work and struggle outside."

"Why do you think these people should get a hot bowl of rice without giving anything of equal value in return?"

"In other words, do they deserve it?"

After Su Mo finished her rant, her eyes filled with sarcasm, infuriating Meng Shu so much that her face turned red and her eyes flashed with anger. A few bodyguards behind her moved forward but she stopped them,

"How can you speak like that? I’m also being kindhearted."

"Exactly! Lady Meng has a Bodhisattva’s heart! Unlike your heartless restaurant, charging dozens of Crystal Stones for a bowl of meat!"

Ordinary people started to voice their agreement again.

"Kindhearted?" Su Mo’s smile faded from the corners of her mouth, "Let me tell you what true kindness is. True kindness is ensuring they can comfortably exchange labor for food daily. Do you think you can support them for a lifetime with what you’re doing now?"

"Who’s going to repair the walls of the refugee camp? Who will fix the houses? Are they supposed to not work and follow you around every day waiting for you to feed them? Is there such an excellent deal in the world?"

Each word struck home, rendering Meng Shu speechless with a red, deflated face—not out of shame, but anger.

She couldn’t speak, and Su Mo didn’t relent, directing her next words toward the ordinary people outside, "Now that the two refugee camps have merged, allowing free movement between them, all the jobs that ordinary people can do must be grabbed, right? What if she stops coming here to feed you one day?"

"How could I not come!" Meng Shu couldn’t help but interrupt her.

Su Mo turned to look at her, a smile curling at the corner of her mouth, "Well then, why don’t you support these several hundred people for a month? I also know Rong Bai well, I can ask him to help you move your alms-giving spot to the entrance of the civilian area, how about that?"

"After all, with you doing this every day here, our customers can’t even enter our shops, right?"

This remark truly spoke to the other shop owners around, with so many ordinary people flooding in daily and completely blocking the street, it was difficult for them to conduct their business.

Someone couldn’t help but agree, "Lady Meng, why don’t you take these ordinary people and leave, our shops also have to pay Crystal Stones each month, you can’t expect us to keep our doors open and do no business."

Meng Shu was nearly infuriated to death. Behind her, some of the common people who had lost their way left to look for jobs, while others continued to stare at her eagerly, hoping she would agree.

"Let it be! I won’t let them starve!"

As soon as she said this, the bodyguard beside her couldn’t help but lean down and whisper a few words in her ear.

In fact, they could hardly afford the rice they allowed for charity anymore.

Wealthy as they were, even a loving father had his limits.

Meng Shu’s face alternated between red and white. Now she was stuck, neither able to leave nor stay, and even speaking was out of the question.

Su Mo just stood there looking at her with a smile.

"Forget it! If you keep targeting me , I won’t come back from now on!"

Before leaving, Meng Shu didn’t forget to throw a figurative bucket of water on Su Mo. She innocently spread her hands towards the common people, "Don’t look at me, when she leaves you can follow her to City Y and wait at her door every day for food."

It was just a joke, but unexpectedly, some of those who stayed took it seriously and followed closely behind Meng Shu and her bodyguard.

The scene looked overwhelming, as if they would never return to City P.

Su Mo was actually pleased they were gone and not coming back. After all, with their lazy nature, they were bound to starve.

However, could these bodyguards really let Meng Shu take people back with her?

Clearly, they could not. After one patted a person who tried to tug at Meng Shu’s sleeve into the air, everyone scattered and fled.

Meng Shu was extremely annoyed, but her expression of anger suddenly froze. She saw Lu Jin coming from the opposite direction.

Why was she doling out charity every day?

Since Lu Jin had arrived in City P, he had been standing in front of Momo Restaurant every day for a while before leaving.

She wanted to showcase her charm and also check out who exactly was inside the restaurant.

"Lu Jin," Meng Shu ran up to him, her cheeks flushed, "Dad wants you to come over for dinner tonight, will you come?"

"Did you trouble her?" the man asked, looking down, his dark gaze staring at her, making her shiver.

Meng Shu stuttered, "No...no, I just asked Su Mo to join me in giving charity."

"Don’t go looking for her again," Lu Jin gave the store one last look, then turned and left, his figure appearing unusually solitary and bleak.

As a member of the Lu Family, Lu Jin’s appearance and capabilities were needless to say commendable. Meng Shu really liked his cool and aloof personality, though she often saw him lash out violently.

With the storefront quiet, business started to pick up. Su Mo was actually planning on going out, but then several superpower users and Rong Bai’s people came to buy refreshments.

After distributing all the goods, she leisurely headed towards the hotel direction.

On the way, she coincidentally ran into Mo Yan.

His eyes lit up when he saw her, and he quickly approached.

"Su Mo, you are finally back," he said warmly.

Su Mo folded her arms and looked at him impatiently, "Can’t you really treat me as a stranger?"
