The Chef Rules the Last Days Chapter 561

Chapter 561: Chapter 559: Armory

Lu Chen sat down, “Are you going yourself?”

“Yes, that batch of materials was explored by Meng Hao’s people but they failed to secure it—the national weapons depot. We don’t even know its location, right?”

Su Mo poured herself a glass of water and took a sip, “That’s strange. If none of you know about it, how does Meng Hao know?”

“The power of money. Before the apocalypse, Meng Hao had dealt in arms trading with the government,” Rong Bai said calmly, “I’ve heard a bit about it too.”

“He was also the only legal arms dealer; otherwise, how could he have survived the apocalypse?”

That made it easier to understand.

Su Mo kept quiet, just looking at Lu Chen.

He tapped his fingers on the table and said, “If you go, does that mean you’re leaving the mess at the refugee camp to me?”

Rong Bai nodded, “You’ve helped me a lot. I’ll take on this danger, and please look after the refugee camp for me.”

If Rong Bai hadn’t been sufficiently just and smart, Lu Chen wouldn’t have stayed with him.

With so many lives hanging in the balance, Lu Chen understood the pressure.

“I have just one request—you must come back alive.”

Rong Bai stood up, and the two embraced. “Of course, I will definitely come back alive.”

“My office here, I’m leaving in your hands.”

To prevent any mishaps on Rong Bai’s journey, Su Mo went out of her way to make many teas and meals through the night.

Although the Space Superpower User by his side lacked a preservation function, it could at least ensure safety for the first couple of days on the road.

Hearing that Rong Bai was going to lead troops in collaboration with people from Y city to retrieve weapons, Feng Yao volunteered to help, his only condition being that, upon return, Su Mo’s teas would be provided free of charge.

This arrangement benefited both parties.

Su Mo was not stingy with her tea leaves and thus she agreed.

Rong Bai left on a gloomy day after the rain had stopped, taking his own soldiers. This time, Su Mo saw Lu Jin among those who were setting out.

She stood behind Lu Chen, her gaze low. The physiological discomfort really surged through her mind, screaming out an urge to kill him.

Sitting in the car, Lu Jin watched quietly through the rearview mirror, his dark eyes filled with palpable disappointment.

He thought she would go too.

The teams set off impressively.

Now, all the soldiers that Rong Bai had left behind were under Lu Chen’s command.

He temporarily moved to the top floor. Rong Bai had many tasks on his plate, including fortifying city walls, setting traps, and enhancing the dike along the P River.

Every day, Su Mo spent her time idly in her room, only feeling the familiar cool body embrace her in the hazy depths of night.

As days passed, Su Mo’s restaurant operated sporadically, and after it was remodeled, she completely handed its management over to Bai Yuee and her son to watch over.

Besides occasionally delivering goods to superpower users, the bedroom on the third floor was also cleared out for Bai Yuee and her son.

Since she was now staying at the hotel, it was just sitting empty anyway.

The consequence of her idleness was becoming lazier, while the anxiety inside her grew stronger.

Rong Bai had been gone for nearly a week, but no word had come back.

The bridge in Y city had already been destroyed by Lu Chen and his men, leaving a natural cliff in its place.

Today, he had someone post a notice at the entrance of the task distribution hall.

Many people gathered around it, all civilians, discussing the notice animatedly.

As Su Mo passed by, she receded out of sight.

Recruiting a hundred ordinary people as bait to attract the Beast Tide, the reward offered was very simple, just one, the permanent right to use the cafeteria.

A hundred people, a hundred spots, transferable to anyone at will.

Once this was announced, Su Mo witnessed a grand scene: ordinary people were lining up in a long queue that extended out from the mission hall.

Su Mo had not expected so many people to be willing to serve as bait, but listening to their reasons made it understandable.

“I have a wife and child, put down a spot for my wife,” one said.

“Fill out the form first, we need to screen before we can proceed,” another responded.

“Give me one, I have kids and an old mother at home, they can’t starve,” pleaded another.

All these people, without a single exception, had families.

Su Mo couldn’t quite express how she felt, but it was certainly distressing; she lost any desire to wander further and returned to the top floor of the hotel.

Lu Chen was out, so she leaned on the couch and brought out Yang Yichu.

Su Mo handed him a piece of processed wild boar meat and tentatively asked, “Yichu, could you help me with something?”

Yang Yichu, while gnawing on the pork, replied, “Sister, speak.”

“The Beast Tide… can you control it?”

He paused, putting down the beef, and stammered, “No, I can’t control them.”

“But Da Bai listens to you completely,” she argued.

“That’s different, they aren’t the same species, I can only control dogs,” he clarified.

Su Mo wasn’t a zombie and couldn’t understand Yang Yichu, so she just sighed, “Ah.”

She lay back on the couch, murmuring, “What should we do?”

“Sister, do you hope to protect this place?” Yang Yichu asked, his head hung as if he were pondering.

Staring at the chandelier on the ceiling, Su Mo answered, “Of course, nobody wants to see something they’ve built from scratch be destroyed.”

“Then let me help you,” Yang Yichu said calmly.

Su Mo sat up abruptly from the couch, excitedly asking, “You have a way?”

“No, but I can summon, all of my companions here,” he slowly completed his sentence.

Using a zombie horde to counter the Beast Tide seemed like a great idea, and Su Mo’s eyes brightened.

“You… are willing to do this?” she asked uncertainly, as these zombies and Yang Yichu were of the same kind, after all.

“I don’t care about their lives; I only care about you,” Yang Yichu said, the corners of his stiff face twitching slightly upwards.

Su Mo was moved; she had only fed him when he was still human, not expecting that she would become his everything now.

Yang Yichu had changed and sacrificed so much for her.

Su Mo rubbed his head, “Thank you.”

“Recently, just let me stay outside,” he suggested.

With Yang Yichu’s zombie army, their chances of surviving the Beast Tide would definitely be much greater.

Su Mo’s worried expression finally eased as she watched Yang Yichu start eating on his own and yawned, drifting into a doze on the couch.

When Lu Chen entered the top floor, he was a bit wary of that small figure but seeing the person on the couch sound asleep, their calm and unruffled eyes met for an instant before amiably parting.

When Su Mo woke up, she was covered with Lu Chen’s jacket and turned her head to see the man working behind the desk.
