148 Not Stopping until Someone Dies
The coachman rushed to Zhao Guitang’s house.
Madam Zhou ordered the coachman to immediately return to the Hu clan and inform Old Mrs. Hu of what had happened.
As she was still unsure of whether Hu Bingyu would survive or not, she didn’t want to leave his side.
However, at that moment, she was not able to bear with the family that caused such an incident to him any longer.
They dared to endanger her husband and she wasn’t going to let anyone of them off the hook.
At the same time, Zhao Chuchu was cleaning Hu Bingyu’s wound inside the room.
Xie Heng was shining a flashlight on the wound for her as the room was too dark for her to work efficiently.
“Is he going to be alright?” Xie Heng asked in a low voice.
“The wound does look horrible, but it’s not going to cost him his life. Still, he’ll start to feel nauseous and puke after he wakes up. He should be fine after resting for a few days,” Zhao Chuchu replied. “Who would’ve expected that Old Madam Ma would actually kill for the money?”
“I guess even God can’t stop them from dooming themselves any longer.”
“I guess so.” Zhao Chuchu sighed.
She didn’t care what would happen to Old Madam Ma, but it would be unfortunate for Zhao Meilan and Hu Yiming as she rooted for the both of them to be together.
After what had happened, it seemed to her that the two of them weren’t fated for each other.
“What’s wrong?” Xie Heng glanced at Zhao Chuchu. “Are you pitying them?”
“Why would I pity them? They brought this upon themselves.” Zhao Chuchu sighed again but did not stop taking care of the unconscious man’s wound. She then told Xie Heng about what she was worried about.
Xie Heng couldn’t help but laugh. “I thought you were worrying about something important. That’s it?”
“But Meilan really has feelings for Hu Yiming…”
“Zhao Guitang has already said that whatever Old Madam Ma does has nothing to do with them. If they really called everything off because of this, then there’s nothing we can do.”
“Yeah, but I still feel bad for Meilan.”
“Who knew you were the type to try and set a couple up.”
“I just don’t want to see her cry.”
Xie Heng smiled and remained silent after that.
Zhao Chuchu was able to clean Hu Bingyu’s wound quickly. After applying the medicine and bandaging his head, she walked out of the room.
Madam Zhou immediately approached the young doctor. “Mrs. Xie, how’s my husband? I-is he okay?”
“He will wake up in a few days. Don’t worry. There’s no life-threatening danger,” Zhao Chuchu said, comforting the woman.
“Thank you! Thank you so much! I thought…”
“It’s easy to pass out from head injuries, but that doesn’t mean he will lose his life from that. Although he’s not in any danger, there are still side effects. He might feel nauseous once he wakes up and would want to puke.”
“T-then, what should we do?”
“Just let him rest in bed for a few days. He should refrain from making too much movement, or else it’ll be painful for him.”
“But…”
“Why don’t you guys stay here for the time being?” Madam He suggested. “Even though our house isn’t the best, Chuchu did say that he should refrain from moving. You’ll have to endure for the next few days for him to recover.”
“But won’t that we be a nuisance to you and your family?”
“It’s alright. We can just sleep in our daughter’s room and she can sleepover at her friend’s.”
“Then… Thank you.”
Madam Zhou was willing to do anything as long as her husband could survive the ordeal and get better.
Her life at a younger age was way worse than the condition of Zhao Guitang’s family.
Then, Zhao Chuchu handed a prescription to Madam Zhou.
Madam Zhou asked one of the villagers to help her get all the herbs written on it while she stayed back to take care of Hu Bingyu.
It didn’t take long for the man to wake up.
Just as Zhao Chuchu had mentioned, he felt nauseous and wanted to puke.
Despite being told beforehand, Madam Zhou was still worried and had Zhao Chuchu take a look at her husband again.
Only after Zhao Chuchu assured her once again that her husband would be fine, she was finally able to calm down.
Even though there were a few guests staying over, it didn’t affect Zhao Meilan with her tofu making.
As the weather hadn’t turned hot yet, the raw soy milk could be stored a little longer.
Zhao Chuchu had planned to help for a couple more days and let them handle the rest on their own.
When Old Madam Ma learned that Zhao Chuchu managed to save Hu Bingyu and that he was currently staying at Zhao Guitang’s home, she charged into the house and forced Madam Zhou to give an explanation about calling off the engagement.
“See! I told you. He fell on purpose. It’s all an elaborate scam that they and my eldest son thought up. Zhao Guitang, you better not forget that Meijuan is your niece! How can you set your own niece up?” the old lady yelled. “I’m warning you. You better give us an explanation. You want to call off the engagement? Fine. But you better compensate us, or we’re not doing it!”
“You know what you’ve done,” Madam Zhou replied in a deep tone. “Do you think you can have everything by shouting? I’ve also warned all of you that the Hu clan is not a family you can mess with. Enjoy while you can because I’m going to have you guys pay us back for trying to kill my husband.”
“Hah! Do you even know where you are now? How dare you speak to me like that?” Old Madam Ma said as she pointed at Madam Zhou. “What can you even do? Get the hell out of here, now!”
“Mother, that’s enough!” Zhao Guitang suddenly roared. “Do you really want someone to die before you stop?”
Zhao Guitang had always been the obedient son of Old Madam Ma. His sudden outburst startled the old lady.
However, Old Madam Ma quickly regained her wits and raised her voice. “You ungrateful bastard! Is this how you talk to your mother? I’m going to kill you.”
“Fine. Kill me.” Zhao Guitang was not backing off. Instead, he glared at his mother so hard that his eyes were about to pop. “I’d rather die than listen to all your complaints every day!”
“W-what did you say?”
“We are not part of the Zhao clan anymore. You aren’t allowed to barge into my home without asking me first. I don’t mind giving you money every month, but if you insist on making a scene here, then you are never getting my money again. I’d rather divorce my wife and give her all my money instead!”
Zhao Guitang gathered all his guts to yell back at his mother.
He realized that doing that wasn’t as hard as he thought it would be.
“I don’t care what you did to me in the past, but from now onwards, I won’t be silent if you keep acting up like this,” Zhao Guitang added.
“Zhao Guitang, how dare you speak to me like that? Oh my God! What kind of a son have you given me? Please, God, kill him with your thunder. Look at him, trying to chase his mother out after all I’ve done to raise him!”
“Brother, you’ve gone too far with that. You’re still mom’s son after all. Aren’t you afraid of God’s punishment for saying that?”
“If God really thinks that I’m wrong, then he can take my life whenever he wants! Unfortunately for you, God is on my side and he’s not doing anything.”
Zhao Guiqing glared at Zhao Guitang, unable to believe that the man in front of him was his older brother.
Zhao Meilan heard the conversation from inside the kitchen. She was infuriated and wanted to head out to help her parents.
However, Zhao Chuchu stopped her and whispered, “Don’t head out first. You won’t want to interrupt your father now. He’s finally able to gather his guts to fight back. If you head out now, they would think that your father is scared.”
“But, they’re going too far…”
