77 Remember This Well
Once the officers arrived at the village, they headed straight toward the Zhao clan’s house.
Just a few seconds later, the cries of Zhao Xing’s mother echoed throughout the village.
Zhao Xing was dragged out of the house as if he were a dead dog.
When that happened, Zhao Chuchu was already present at the scene with the rest of the crowd. She stood in the back and enjoyed the show.
“They said that Zhao Xing robbed and murdered someone. They’re searching his house now.”
“When did that happen? Isn’t he a cripple now? Hey! Look! They’re digging for something in the garden!”
“Holy! Isn’t that a hairpin made out of gold? And that bracelet! That’s more expensive than the lady owner of the grain store in the town wears!”
When the officers raised those items in front of Zhao Xing, the color drained from his face. He sat on the ground and trembled in fear.
His mother, complaining that her son was innocent a second ago, was now quiet. It was as if someone was choking her, and panic could be seen in her eyes.
“Take them back!” the leader of the officers ordered.
“Sir! This is all a misunderstanding! Those things don’t belong to my son! Look! He can’t even walk! There’s no way he can do that! Someone’s framing him…”
“Someone’s framing him, you say? Why don’t you say that to the person who almost got killed by him back at the county office?” The leader scoffed. “Take them!”
“Officer, could this be a misunderstanding? We’re a family of farmers. There’s no way we can…” The clan head tried to argue but was cut short.
“Should I believe your words more than the evidence? If anyone tries to stop me again, I’ll throw them into prison too!”
That quickly silenced the clan head.
As Zhao Xing’s mother struggled, she spotted Zhao Chuchu among the crowd. She immediately pointed at the lady and shouted, “Sir! Zhao Chuchu is behind all of it! She’s framing us! Search her place, and you’ll find more stuff!”
Zhao Chuchu raised a brow, unable to believe the woman would go to such length.
However, before she could even do anything, the leader slapped Zhao Xing’s mother so hard that it sent a couple of her teeth flying out of her mouth.
The woman screamed in pain.
“Silence her up! We’re heading back!”
None of the officers even dared to look at Zhao Chuchu. They quickly tied Zhao Xing and her mother up and left.
The clan head glared at Zhao Chuchu and scolded, “Is this all your doing again? You bitch!”
Zhao Chuchu took a deep breath before replying, “I must’ve been too kind all this time for you guys to think that you can mess with me over and over again.”
With a swipe of her arm, she dislocated the clan head’s jaw.
“Argh!” the clan head yelled in pain.
“This is what happens to dogs who bite.”
“My jaw…” The clan head cried as he held his chin with his hand.
“Remember this. If anyone dares to try and frame me again, this is what you get!” the lady warned and left.
The villagers shivered at the sight of what had just happened and watched Zhao Chuchu enter the mountain with the basket on her back.
No matter how angered the Zhao clan was, not a single one of them dared to speak up.
“You guys must really think we are blind, huh?” Niu Tongsheng coldly said to the Zhao clan. “Do you really think we don’t know what Zhao Xing did that night at her house? How dare you guys try to frame her. I’m warning you, if I see or hear this again, I’ll personally invite the magistrate over and chase the Zhao clan out of this village. I don’t want trash like you living here anymore.”
Everyone in the Zhao clan was dumbfounded when they heard that.
No matter how many people the Zhao clan had, they still lacked in numbers compared to the Niu clan.
To make matters worse for them, Zhao Xing was apprehended for a murder attempt.
