When Yang Chuxia returned to her room, she didn’t know that after she left, Yang Qingrui had a good lecture with Ye Zi’an. Even when they arrived at Zi’an’s house, he didn’t stop nagging. He talked about things like respecting his sister’s image and not to overdo things, especially since their marriage isn’t set yet. He went on and on.
Ye Zi’an couldn’t help but see his future brother-in-law in a new light. He hadn’t expected the boy to have learned so much wisdom in such a short time at the academy. Still, he was a little worried that this future brother-in-law might be a bit too talkative.
Back at Yang Chuxia’s house, Yang Dongxue, the child, had a bad habit of being unable to sleep anywhere but her own bed. After going back to the room with Ms.Wang and Yang Xiayun, she could not fall asleep. However, Yang Xiayun had already fallen asleep.
She was scared in the dark and so, started crying as though there was an earthquake in the middle of the night.
Yang Chuxia had just fallen asleep when she was abruptly woken up by the sound of crying.
Ms.Wang, naturally, had the same experience. She had no choice but to go to Yang Xiayun’s room to calm the child. However, even after they managed to soothe Yang Dongxue, Yang Xiayun refused to share a room with her
Yang Chuxia, who was in the room next to Yang Xiayun’s, could hear everything clearly. She called out to Ms.Wang through the wall, "Mother, bring her to my room."
Ms.Wang hesitated for a moment before eventually carrying Yang Dongxue to Yang Chuxia’s room. But when they got to Yang Chuxia’s room and Yang Dongxue saw her, she started fussing again.
"Try crying again and see if I don’t beat you," Yang Chuxia threatened, having lost all her patience in the middle of the night.
Yang Dongxue whimpered for a moment after being yelled at, but then she resumed crying.
Out of frustration, Yang Chuxia leapt out of bed, snatched Yang Dongxue from Ms.Wang’s arms, put her on her own bed, and said to Ms.Wang, "Mother, you go back to your room and sleep. I’ll take care of her."
"Xiaxia, she’s just a child. Don’t take your anger out on her because of your fourth aunt."
"Mother, what are you talking about? There’s nothing for you here, go back to your room. I promise I won’t hit her, okay?"
"Alright, alright, stop pushing. I’ll go back now." After Ms.Wang left, Yang Chuxia closed the door.
Back at the bed, Yang Dongxue was wiping away tears and whimpering in a low voice, acting as if she had lost her mother. Seeing Yang Chuxia approaching, she cried even louder.
Frustrated, Yang Chuxia warned her harshly, "Listen to me. If you cry again, you won’t see your mother anymore. If you stop crying, your mother will be back tomorrow."
"If I don’t cry, can I see my mother tomorrow?" Yang Dongxue’s small voice ask, choking with sobs.
When Yang Chuxia saw her stop crying, she was stupefied, and then said, "Yes, definitely yes."
"Then I won’t cry anymore."
With that, Yang Dongxue wiped her tears, quickly pulled the quilt over herself, and lay down.
Holy moly, Yang Chuxia thought, I can’t keep up with a child’s mood swings.
Seeing that the little pest had stopped crying, Yang Chuxia got into bed too. Noticing that the child seemed a bit pitiful huddled up in the corner, she moved over to her side of the bed and hugged Yang Dongxue as she fell asleep. Still, just before she fell asleep, she couldn’t help but comment that hugging a breadroll wasn’t nearly as nice as hugging Brother An.
Yang Chuxia had a heavy sleep that night. She wanted to keep sleeping but remembered about Yang Dongxue, so she quickly got up. Yet, when she reached the door, her eyes were still half-closed.
When she saw Ye Zi’an come in, she threw herself into his arms with her eyes closed, sighing in her heart, "The feeling is really different."
