Jia returned to the bureau, releasing a heavy sigh. The only hope to meet Yong at Huayuan was diminishing.
If the residents at Huayuan continue to refuse me, then where else will I go?
As she walked towards her desk, she froze at the sight of a certain devil seated on a chair on the opposite side. The morning’s conversation replayed in her mind all over again and her countenance turned bitter.
He dares to show me his face already after messing with me this morning!?
She faced him with a seething fury, folding her arms against her chest. "I have got nothing to talk to you so leave."
Mingshen glanced up and beamed. "Spicy! I missed you."
She clenched her jaw.
The nerve to act as if nothing happened...
"Where did you disappear without your partner, Spicy? We are supposed to stick together like permanent glue!"
From his far away desk, Xiyang let out a small cough. Jia threw him a glare and he buried his head in the files.
"Leave."
"I am here for important work, Spicy."
"I don’t care."
"My employee cares. He cannot sleep on a cold, hard bed. Soooo, I am here to get him released."
Her expression twisted. "Knowing what happened last night?"
Mingshen blinked. "You should be questioning that to that Politburo guy. My employee is harmless and innocent."
"Hou Tengqi is still unconscious."
"Thankfully or else that bubbly actress might have been," he smiled meaningfully.
Jia squinted her eyes. "Are you suggesting he was violent towards her?"
"An answer I believe you will neither get from that comatose guy nor the bubbly actress."
"I will surely look into that line of investigation but that doesn’t make Bai Yingtai any less innocent."
"It was self-defense. Or should I say bubbly actress defense," he nodded.
"Would have been a strong argument had he not been on top of her when the guests barged in."
Mingshen harrumphed. "This cruel world is very unjust towards women. My employee said that it was in her best interests to protect her from any cheating allegations. My employee has a big heart! Just like me who can go to any lengths to protect my lovely Spicy," he smiled.
Jia seethed in rage with his nonchalant attitude.
"I assume you don’t have the court’s bail order yet, so I implore you not to waste my time. Get out," she coldly barked.
Mingshen squinted his eyes. "Truly in a spicy mode today, aren’t we?"
"Whose fault do you think it is?"
"People walk blindfolded and then get angry when they hit a wall. So whose fault is it? The wall? Or the part where you refuse to take off your blindfold?"
Jia stared at him. "Nobody is walking blindfolded here."
He smiled. "A misunderstanding that soon will get cleared up anyway."
"Good. So until then, don’t show me your face."
"I have my employee to bail out."
"Provided you have the court’s order which I assume you don’t."
"That’s why I came to my partner!" He shone. "Where else will I use your connection?"
Her gaze darkened.
"You don’t need to use her connection when you have me, you know."
A tall woman’s heels clicked against the floor as she took off her shades and smiled at Mingshen. She looked at him with a playful smile. Everybody’s gazes turned at her flashy entrance.
Mingshen raised his brow while Jia was taken aback. She recognized the woman from last evening with whom she had bumped into at the banquet hall - not by her face but by her voice and the aura she exuded.
Xie Mulan’s gaze fell on Jia and she blinked at her. "Have I met you somewhere?"
"Um I think...you were there at the charity function last night, right?"
She slightly tilted her head and guessed. "Wait, are you that woman I bumped into?"
"Pretty sure yeah."
Her eyes slightly widened. "Oh my so you are a cop. Nice to meet you. I am Xie Mulan."
Jia blinked.

Isn’t she the CEO of Quantum Games where Zexi is working?
Jia smiled. "Song Jia."
She arched her brow. "Song Jia. I thought that was the case. I have heard so much about you."
"Me?"
Xie Mulan threw a smiling glance at Mingshen. "From this devil here. Seems that you are quite his favorite."
Mingshen looked like he was extremely pleased with that statement.
But Jia’s face blackened as a burned pot.
"And Mrs. Yang’s too," Xie Mulan smiled. "You are her only choice for her daughter-in-law."
Her brow twitched. "It’s nothing like that really. Aunt is just...aunt."
"Nah, you definitely are. Not many people enjoy the privilege of being Mrs. Yang Bingqing’s favorite. Does this make me your rival?" She tilted her head.
"Rival?"
"For marrying Yang Mingshen," she shrugged.
Jia choked hard and almost lost her balance. She held her temple with a look of horror, falling dizzy.
Xie Mulan blinked at her and then glanced at Mingshen, pointing her finger at her. "She doesn’t seem so thrilled with this idea as opposed to your zealous expression."
"Spicy is in denial," he pouted. "She knows very well that only I have her heart~"
"And who has your heart?"
Mingshen slowly arched his brow. "The devil does not have a heart."
"Well then whatever you call that beating organ in your chest," she shrugged.
He sheepishly grinned. "Spicy is a sexy cop. Cops keep things safe with them. I trust that my beating organ will be safe in her passionate custody~"
Jia gave him a deadpan look. She focused on Xie Mulan again and asked, "Miss. Xie. Please tell me what brings you to the bureau today."
"Bai Yingtai’s bail."
She enjoyed their confused and shocked expressions. Mingshen stared at her with interest. "My employee works under your payroll? How come I didn’t know?"
"I am sure the Yang family credits his salary."
"So why is somebody from the Xie family here in the first place?"
"Because the reality of us getting together is not that far so I thought I might as well bring my future husband out of his pinch."

Jia suddenly held a newfound respect for Mulan.
Officer Xiyang was trembling with shock.
Who is this new woman coming out of nowhere and claiming to be Dr. Yang’s future wife? Hey, you cannot match our Superintendent Song at all, okay!?
Every other officer snooping into their conversation shared their silent support for Jia.
Mingshen raised his brow. "You think I cannot do it?"
"I think you should refrain from doing it in the first place. A boss blatantly bailing out his employee with such serious accusations on him? Do you perhaps hear the words bias, arrogance and influence in your ears?" She smiled.
Mingshen shrugged. "I think so. But who cares?"
"You are Yang Mingshen. The media cares. So tadah! You are not a good choice so I am here. You can express your gratitude with a ring later~"
