"Dad, I think Xiao Xing and Xiao Chun should be the ones who should inherit the company." Lu Mello said, looking at his father who was sitting by the desk with his mother standing beside him.
They were inside Lu Yifeng's study.
"I'm not going to take it. Mom, dad. You already know what I want. I want to work with the government and become a defender of the law."
Lu Yifeng and Xia Meilin thought that it was just a childish dream but now that he was big enough, it was different. Lu Mello was really pursuing his dreams of wanting to become a Detective like Nian Jiezhen.
Xia Meilin turned to look at her quiet husband. She reached out and held his hand. She was against the idea. She didn't want her son to work in such a dangerous environment.
Lu Yifeng stared at his wife's hand and held it back, stroking the back of her hand with his thumb. He turned to his son and sighed in defeat. He knew his son well, changing his mind was going to be difficult.
"Son, I'm getting old and I want to retire."
Retire? Lu Mello wanted to roll his eyes. It's too early to retire!
"You just want to hand the company to me so that you can spend more time with mom." He whispered under his breath which his parents failed to hear. A small pout appeared in his lips. He knew his father well. He just wanted to pass the burden to him now that he is all grown up.
Lu Yifeng's work at the company was the only hindrance between him and his wife's together time.
"What is that?" The father raised a brow at his son when he saw that he was whispering something.
The boy cleared his throat before saying, "Nothing."
Xia Meilin placed a hand on her husband's shoulder, "I think we should let Mello do what he wants, dear." Even if she didn't want to allow her son, she knew that he will only continue to pursue his dream no matter what they say.
Lu Mello was glad that his mother was being so understanding and was taking his side. He nodded in agreement at his mother's words, "I agree with mom. Dad is still young and so is mom. If dad doesn't want a woman to be his successor then just make another baby with mom. Who knows this time, I'm going to have a brother?"
His mother blushed at her son's words meanwhile Lu Yifeng ended up glaring at him. "Mello."
"What?" Lu Mello pouted, crossing his arms. "Is dad afraid of having mom's frayed attention being divided again if another baby comes?"
Critical hit! Ladies and gentlemen, our smart baby Mello's cutting, merciless words directly hit his father on the bullseye!
Xia Meilin eyed her husband who was sitting still, like a stone, on his chair. She chuckled inwardly, she decided to give her husband a tease, "Is that the reason why you don't want me to have another child?"
Lu Yifeng's brow twitched. He gave his son an accusing glare.
The boy averted his eyes from his father's imputing look. Na-uh, he was not going to take the blame for that.
"Mello, why don't you go back to your room now? It's getting late." His mother said with a small smile.
"No. You stay here, young man."
Of course, Lu Mello wasn't going to stay there so he decided to ignore his father and follow his mother's words instead. "Yes, mom."
He knew who the real boss was and that was his mother.
Despite his father's cold look, Lu Mello left the room, escaping.
Lu Yifeng was left with his wife who was standing beside him with her arms crossed.
He sighed inwardly. He turned his swivel chair and reached out to her, hugging her by her waist instead, "Sweetheart."
"And now, I'm your 'sweetheart'?" She raised a brow, unfazed by his soft gesture.
That Mello! He was making a problem for him!
"I don't want you to get hurt." He rested his head on her stomach, nuzzling his head there. Lu Yifeng may act as a powerful, noble lion in front of others but when it came to his wife, he turned into an obedient cub.
Xia Meilin was holding her laugh, she was trying her best to control the side of her lips from curling up. "Stop doing that. Are you a kid?"
"I'm your husband." He looked up at her, his imaginary animal ears were drooped.
Ah shit. Xia Meilin covered his pleading eyes. She was not going to fall for that. "Lu Yifeng, are you trying to make me cough out blood right now?"
Seriously, within all the years that they were together, Lu Yifeng never failed to amaze his wife.
"I don't want to hurt you." He pulled her and made her sit on his lap. This time, he nuzzled his face on the crook of her neck. "Giving birth gives you pain."
"But after the pain comes joy."
"It can be dangerous." He was persistent.
"I want another baby, Yifeng." She finally gave in inside his embrace and shrunk in his arms.
He slightly leaned back just to look at her lovely face, "I don't think you can give birth to another one with your age."
Oops. That was a mistake, Mr. Lu.
Her brow twitched. The gentle look on her face turned cold. "Mr. Lu! Are you saying that I'm old?!"
His lips stretched out into a straight line upon realizing his mistake, "I didn't mean it that way."
"Uh-huh, then tell me, what do you mean by that?" She crossed her arms once again, glaring at him.
He ended up sighing in defeat, "Let's not argue." He planted kisses on her neck instead.
"You're just avoiding my question."
"I'm not."
"You are."
"I'm not."
When he moved his kiss on her sensitive spot, Xia Meilin melted. A small m.o.a.n escaped her lips.
"Come, it's time for us to go to bed." He carefully carried her in his arms as he stood up. He placed a loving peck on her lips before he started walking.
His wife couldn't get mad at him for long especially when he was acting this way. She rested her head on his shoulder, a sweet smile plastered on her lips. "I want to walk."
"As you wish." He stopped and gently lowered her feet on the ground.
She tiptoed and kissed his cheek before she embraced his arm and went back to their room that way.
"I'm not going to forgive you the next time you say that I've gotten old, understand, Mr. Lu?"
"Yes."
