After rushing out of the courtyard with Liang Haoming, she suddenly felt a little stunned. The terrain here was just too complex, and she turned back to look at Liang Haoming, seeing the man looking confused.
Suddenly coming to his senses, the man looked at her expressionlessly, then took her hand in his and began to lead the way ahead.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
The husbands were all tall, with long legs; she was the shortest in the family, with the shortest legs. Haoming took one step and she had to take two. He looked back at her, then with a long reach, he scooped her up as if holding a small child, sitting her in the crook of his arm. He then moved swiftly, his pace quickening.
Biting her lip, she clutched the front of his garment, her heart full of worry for Zhi Chen.
All through the night, the Golden Triangle was accustomed to revelry.
The area had poor security, and as night fell, chaos reigned. Women frequented Qin buildings and Choo Pavilions, and men held their companion women and sang merrily with drinks in hand. Lanterns adorned both sides of the streets, growing more decadent as the night deepened.
Clearly, Haoming had a much better memory than she did; even the intricate maze of alleyways and streets could not confine him.
By the time Haoming carried her out of the labyrinth, she had jumped down from his arms.
Stay calm, she needed to think!
Remembering how Zhi Chen had taken her to many places the past few days, she suspected that these properties might be related to him. Decided, she took Haoming’s hand and pointed down the road to the right, "Let’s go this way!"
First, she went to a tea house. Dark Night Fire Tea House wasn’t very busy, and unsurprisingly, Zhi Chen was not there. She wanted to inquire but remembered that since entering the Golden Triangle, Zhi Chen’s actions had become somewhat mysterious.
If she acted rashly here, it might attract trouble, and if Zhi Chen encountered danger because of her, wouldn’t it be counterproductive?
So, she could only observe in secret, visiting one establishment after another. By midnight, she still hadn’t found any trace of Zhi Chen.
She bit her lip, feeling very uneasy.
Haoming glanced at her. He was not good with words and didn’t know how to comfort her. In the end, he came up with a kitten from somewhere.
"Meow~~~" It was a white kitten with a tuft of black hair on its forehead, its mew soft and milky, seemingly just born not long ago.
She was taken aback, then looked at Haoming holding the kitten, "You... aren’t worried?"
Haoming looked bemused momentarily, then nodded emphatically.
Immediately after, he held the kitten up to her, as if hoping the little creature would cheer her up.
She looked at the kitten, then back at the man’s cold features.
"Why?" She was quite puzzled.
It seemed like she was the only one in a hurry with her feelings?
Haoming eyed her suspiciously before speaking softly, "Be measured!"
Three simple words, as always, sparing in their use.
She pondered it—was Haoming trying to tell her that Zhi Chen was measured in his actions and that she needn’t worry too much?
But what if—what if Zhi Chen did encounter danger?
What if he was injured, bleeding, what if he was cold, hungry, sick, and there was no one to care for him?
She pressed her temples, her mind racing with thoughts.
Zhi Chen always acted prudently.
His silence and disappearance were out of character.
Even if he intended to do something, even if he left her in the courtyard because he feared for her safety, he surely understood that she would be worried if she didn’t see him.
He couldn’t bear to have her worry about him.
