THE DON'S SECRET WIFE Chapter 135

Morning arrived without ceremony.

The sun rose pale and distant, its light filtered through layers of cloud that refused to lift. Palermo looked ordinary from the outside. Traffic moved. Vendors opened their stalls. People laughed in cafés. None of them knew how close the city had come to something ancient waking fully beneath its streets.

Inside the DeLuca compound, nothing felt ordinary.

The night had left its mark. Cracked walls were being reinforced. Windows replaced. Sensors recalibrated. Guards rotated in tighter shifts. Every shadow was treated as a potential threat.

Aria watched it all from the terrace, wrapped in a soft shawl, her hands resting over her stomach. The baby moved gently, no longer restless, but alert. As if listening.

Luca stood beside her, phone pressed to his ear, issuing orders with calm authority. His voice carried no trace of the fear that had shaken him hours earlier, but Aria could feel the tension in his body through the bond they shared.

When he finished the call, he turned to her. "We have eyes on three possible Ascendant safe houses. One in Messina. Two in Naples."

Aria lifted her gaze. "They spread quickly."

"They planned for this."

She nodded slowly. "Believers always do."

Luca frowned. "You speak like you know them."

"I know their mindset," she replied. "The bloodline remembers followers. People who stood outside the circle but believed in its power. They were not chosen. They were obsessed."

Luca placed a protective hand at the small of her back. "You are not digging through those memories today."

"I am not diving," she said softly. "I am listening. There is a difference."

He studied her for a moment. "Promise me you will stop if it overwhelms you."

She met his eyes. "I promise."

Inside the war room, Nico had already spread photos across the table. Grainy surveillance images showed men in dark clothing, faces partially obscured, moving with coordinated precision. Military posture. Clean formations. No wasted motion.

"These are not street radicals," Nico said. "They have training. Former soldiers. Ex-operatives. Some are European. Some are not."

Marcelo added, "No criminal records under these names. They are ghosts."

Vescari leaned forward, tapping one image. "This symbol again. The serpent and olive branch. It is not just a threat. It is a declaration."

Aria stepped closer. "Peace through submission."

They turned to her.

"That symbol represents unity through control," she explained. "The olive branch offers peace. The serpent enforces it. The Ascendants believe chaos comes from choice. They believe the world should be ruled by prophecy, not will."

Luca’s jaw tightened. "Then they are delusional."

"They are dangerous," Aria corrected. "Delusion mixed with belief is lethal."

Nico exhaled. "We intercepted a message this morning. Encrypted. But we cracked part of it."

He slid a tablet across the table.

A phrase repeated three times.

The bearer walks. The gate breathes. The child returns.

Aria’s hand trembled slightly.

Luca noticed instantly. "Aria."

She inhaled slowly. "They think my daughter is a reincarnation. Not a person. A symbol."

Vescari nodded grimly. "That is how cult thinking begins. The child becomes an object. A prophecy. Not a life."

Luca slammed his fist against the table. "They will never touch her."

"They believe they are chosen," Aria said quietly. "They will not stop unless we dismantle their belief."

Salvatore frowned. "You cannot kill an idea."

"No," Aria said. "But you can expose it."

Silence fell.

Luca turned to her slowly. "What are you thinking?"

"They need the prophecy to feel real," she said. "They need signs. Symbols. Confirmation. If we disrupt that, their faith fractures."

Vescari studied her carefully. "You want to undermine their doctrine."

"Yes," Aria said. "Before they turn it into violence on a larger scale."

Nico raised an eyebrow. "How."

Aria hesitated, then spoke carefully. "By feeding them a truth they are not prepared for."

Luca’s eyes narrowed. "I do not like that sentence."

She took his hand. "I know."

She turned back to the table. "The Ascendants believe the bloodline will obey the circle. But I am the bloodline now. If I make a move they cannot explain, something that contradicts their prophecy, their unity cracks."

Vescari’s voice dropped. "You would reveal yourself."

Aria nodded. "Not fully. But enough."

Luca shook his head. "Absolutely not."

She met his gaze, unwavering. "Luca. They already know about me. Hiding does not protect us anymore."

"I am not using you as bait," he snapped.

"I am not bait," she replied calmly. "I am leverage."

Nico interjected carefully. "Boss... she is right about one thing. These people are not reacting blindly. They are waiting. Watching. If we strike first without understanding them, we escalate into open war."

Luca exhaled sharply. "And if we do nothing, they come for my family."

Aria squeezed his hand. "We control the narrative."

Vescari closed his book slowly. "There is precedent for this. In ancient times, false prophecies were dismantled by the bearer herself. She would perform a public act that contradicted expectation."

"What kind of act?" Luca asked.

"One of mercy," Vescari replied.

Aria nodded. "Mercy is the one thing extremists cannot tolerate. It shatters the illusion of righteous violence."

Luca stared at her. "You want to show mercy to people who want to steal our child."

"I want to show the world that the prophecy is wrong," she said. "That the bearer does not bring domination. She brings choice."

The room fell silent again.

The baby kicked gently, as if punctuating her words.

Luca closed his eyes briefly. When he opened them, his voice was quieter. "If we do this, you are never alone. Ever."

She smiled softly. "I would not have it any other way."

Nico nodded. "We can stage a controlled appearance. Charity event. Public space. Heavy security."

Marcelo added, "We leak it. Make sure the Ascendants hear."

Luca looked at Aria. "You will not do this if you feel even a hint of the Patron."

She nodded. "He is quiet. Distant. Focused elsewhere."

Vescari frowned. "Or watching."

Aria lifted her chin. "Then let him watch too."

Luca pulled her into his chest briefly, pressing a kiss to her hair. "You are terrifying."

She smiled faintly. "I learned from you."

Outside, the city continued its rhythm, unaware that a new kind of war was unfolding beneath its streets.

Not one of guns and blood.

But belief.

And Aria Valencia was about to challenge it head-on.
