Nan Qingqing picked up her phone with composure and handed it to Meng Yi, her smile filled with charm.
"Meng Yi, how could I possibly deceive you? Look, my big brother is calling me, or you can ask him directly."
Meng Yi met those candid, fox-like eyes and showed a naive smile, "Qingqing, I was just joking. Go ahead and answer the call."
Just as Nan Qingqing connected the call, before she could even speak,
an impatient voice on the other end, Nan Zhuoyuan’s, cut in: "Qingqing, your sister-in-law and I have some free time today and would like to come over and meet your family. Are your adoptive parents and sister at home?"
"If they’re not, it’s okay, just call them back now. We want to meet them, and we’ll be there in twenty minutes."
He hung up without giving Nan Qingqing any chance to refuse.
The smile on Nan Qingqing’s face stiffened, and her expression cracked slightly. Her mouth agape, she was unable to utter a word.
Meng Yi, who was nearby, heard everything and a hint of joy flickered in her eyes. She spoke up, "Qingqing, is your big brother coming over?"
Nan Qingqing forced a smile and nodded, "My brother and sister-in-law said they will be here soon."
Excitement shone on Meng Yi’s face, "That’s fantastic! I can thank him in person for introducing me to such an impressive lawyer."
At the mention of the lawyer, Nan Qingqing’s anxiety grew. She touched the jade necklace on her neck and sighed, "Meng Yi, I’m afraid that won’t be possible."
Meng Yi froze, "Why not?"
Nan Qingqing’s mind raced, and she said gravely, "Meng Yi, Nan Yu will also be back soon. If she finds out that it was my big brother who found the lawyer for you, I fear she might do something rash that could affect Lawyer Jiang’s plan."

Jiang Feishun, carrying his briefcase, paused in his steps and looked at the woman blocking his way.

Jiang Feishun squinted, sizing her up, "Meng Yi sent you?"
Nan Yu nodded calmly, "Yes."
Seeing her serious expression that didn’t appear to be lying, Jiang Feishun pursed his lips and said, "Didn’t I tell her already? I’m in full charge of the case; she should trust me and not interfere with my plan."
Nan Yu followed at his leisurely pace, "Meng Yi was worried that you might be short-handed and sent me to see if there’s anywhere I could lend a hand."
Jiang Feishun glanced at the vivacious Nan Yu and patiently replied, "I don’t need extra people here. Go back and tell her that if she wants Luo Ji to come out safely, she shouldn’t meddle further and should just stay home and wait for news."
Nan Yu nodded gently, "Alright, I’ll pass that message to Meng Yi."
As Jiang Feishun took a couple more steps forward, he realized Nan Yu was still following him. He immediately turned to look at her.
"What else do you want?"
Nan Yu stood still, her gaze fixed on him.
"Lawyer Jiang, there’s actually a significant private matter unrelated to Meng Yi that I must discuss with you. I’d like to find a secluded place with no one around to talk it over slowly."
Jiang Feishun met her clear, sincere eyes and he suddenly felt an itch in his heart.
He pressed his tongue against the roof of his mouth, his eyes filled with inscrutable depths as he looked at her.
