Jian accompanied his grandpa until the evening, and at five, all the workers were let off work. The workers' compound was quite close by. He stuck around to take a look at his grandpa's accommodation. Thankfully, the other workers were kind enough to allow him in there.
There were at least two rows of homes rented to accommodate the workers.
Each room had two beds and was quite big too. Jian was satisfied by these co-sleeping conditions. To be honest, that single room was bigger than their home. He was glad his grandpa was staying in a safe and comfortable place.
"Why are you standing around?" his grandpa pulled him to the small bed. "Stay, it's too late to go home. Plus, your grandma is not home. I don't want you to stay alone."
"I can stay?" he looked at the familiar foreman who invited him to lunch.
"Yeah, kid. We occasionally have our family over to stay. The construction company does not mind. The two guys you saw today are the wonders of this building. I heard they were both big CEOs or something yet they actually are very nice. They are the ones who arranged these homes for us and gave us good food," the foreman said with a grin. "They wouldn't mind a child standing over," he patted the top of his head. "Study well and make your grandpa proud, okay?"
Jian smiled and nodded. "I'll make him proud."
Studying was useless, though. In about seven months, the world was going to go downhill. Finding food alone was a great skill. The first thing he needed to do is increase his physical strength and stamina. If he had to carry his grandpa around, he needed to be strong and fast. Even saying that out loud would make him look crazy.
"My grandsons are both so good. You should see Bian. He is not the best at scoring, but he is such a sweet child," grandpa boasted.
Hearing that name soured his mood instantly. Jian pouted slightly. 'Where is he good? That rotten peach is only good at making trouble. I hope and pray that the Wang family comes around sooner than later. I just want to get rid of them. Staying in that house is such a burden for me.'
A sudden thought struck his mind. 'This place looks good if... if I can stay over... no, no. I can't bring trouble for my grandpa...'
He hesitantly looked at his grandpa, who was massaging his knees. "Let me," he went to massage his thighs and knees. "I'll buy you some massage oil. Please hold on for a few days." He will get his first pay soon. The first thing he wanted to buy was the pain massage oil for his grandpa. The poor man was working like a bull every day and suffering from pain for their family. That is the least he could do.
That night he slept with his grandpa in a small bed.
That was the most peaceful sleep he had in a long time. He sat up refreshed, feeling the warm sunlight streaming from the huge window. 'It's decided. Today I'm going to separate the family.' He smirked widely. His dear darling brother was probably home. After all, they did not have funds to stay overnight in the hospital. He just needed to incite his dear darling grandma a bit until she starts to beat him. When his grandpa sees this, he will cry and act pitiful. The old man would not let him stay with that old lady anymore.
He saw his grandpa sit up tiredly. "Grandpa, can you come home for lunch? I'll make you some healthy greens."
"Sure sure, I'll drop you home."
"No!" Jian shot up. "I can walk back home. This place is so close to my school, so I know the route. It's completely safe." He smirked softly. "I'll see you at lunch, grandpa."
He left the construction site early in the morning.
Xing Yu and the prince came by at eight once again. "Why are we here again? I thought we already checked on the progress," the prince grumbled loudly. Xing Yu did not answer. His eyes wandered to the banyan tree. The familiar figure was not there.
'He must have left.'
"What did you find out about the young boy?" he waved his hand, and the driver walked up to him.
"Sir, this is his report." Xing Yu took the report and read through it with a frown. The prince peeked at it.
"He has a twin. That settles it. He is human." He let out a deep breath. "Why are you so sure he is the one?"
"Intuition," Xing Yu placed a hand in his pocket, cupping the cold stone. 'It reacted yesterday; now it's cold.' 'I need to get close to that kid to know more. If he is really the third prince then... he is my betrothed.'
