Colin listened to her speak before he turned to her. The smile on his face faded away as he said three words, “To protect you!”
Lu Jia’er was surprised to hear those words. “Colin, you have saved me once! I really appreciate it and I may be unable to repay your kindness. However, if you follow me under the pretense that you want to protect me, I won’t consider it as some goodwill. That is a crime!” She added.
Colin put on a stern look. “Whether it is goodwill or a crime, none of it matters as long as you can be saved.”
“What?” Lu Jia’er found her head in a daze.
“You have no idea what you are faced with really.” Colin went on.
“Colin, make yourself clear!” Lu Jia’er insisted.
Colin looked at Lu Jia’er and Jin Xiangdong before he said, “Sometimes, even what you see and what you hear is not real. Wherever and whenever you are, the only one you can trust is yourself.”
Lu Jia’er was surprised. Jin Xiangdong found Colin’s words suspicious as well. Ever since Colin showed up, they had found him a mystery.
Colin continued, “Also, I mean you no harm.”
“Don’t you think you are contradicting yourself?” Jin Xiangdong asked.
Colin smiled. “Yes, I am contradicting myself. But, I am asking you to remember those words!”
Lu Jia’er was not a fan of someone being deliberately mystifying. However, since she could not read Colin’s mind, there was nothing she could do.
“Are you saying that you are protecting Su Han as well?” Lu Jia’er posed an unexpected question.
Colin kept his gaze on her. “There is this saying that like a clay idol fording a river, you are not able to protect yourself.”
Lu Jia’er understood instantly that what Colin was implying was that her situation was not necessarily better than Su Han’s.
“By saying this, you have revealed the fact that you do know Su Han!” Lu Jia’er compelled Colin to answer.
“Knowing her or not does not matter. What matters is that you must remember what I said!” Having said this, Colin walked out of the foyer immediately.
Lu Jia’er was a bit puzzled. Looking at Colin from the back, somehow, she felt she knew him. However, his words had planted a mystery in her heart.
It was quiet. Jin Xiangdong looked at Lu Jia’er. “Jia’er, how much weight do you think there is in his words?”
Lu Jia’er had to think for a while before she said, “Is there a chance that he is not the real Colin?”
Jin Xiangdong was surprised. “Not Colin?”
“I don’t know why. I find him familiar!” Lu Jia’er explained.
Someone instantly came to Jin Xiangdong’s mind. “Is he… Ian?” Jin Xiangdong bolted out.
“Ian?” Lu Jia’er felt she was awakened to the truth.
The two of them hurried to the door. However, there was no trace of Colin anymore.
Lu Jia’er would not give up. She ran to the open road and looked for him everywhere. However, it was as if Colin could turn invisible. He vanished in an instant.
A cloud of frustration covered Lu Jia’er’s face. Jin Xiangdong walked over and comforted her. “I was just guessing. Maybe, that is not Ian!”
Lu Jia’er shook her head. “Well, maybe he is!”
Jin Xiangdong reached out and put his hands over her shoulders. He was not clear regarding how Lu Jia’er felt about Ian, whether she viewed him as her lover or her brother. That being said, there was one thing Jin Xiangdong felt certain and that was, she cared about Ian.
Lu Jia’er leaned against Jin Xiangdong’s chest. At the moment, the frustration had shifted into something she could not describe.
When she found the clue Ian left for her in Los Angeles, when she read words they wrote for each other, she could still feel how deep and how sincere the relationship was between her and Ian even though she liked Jin Xiangdong now.
And if that Ian dressed up as Colin, then she had been too neglectful and careless to not have recognized him.
Jin Xiangdong held her in his arms and patted her back. “If that is him, then Su Han is in no danger.”
Hearing this, Lu Jia’er looked up at once. “Why is that?”
“I always have a feeling that there is some sort of connection between Colin and Ian!” Jin Xiangdong shared his assumption.
Lu Jia’er could not help but think twice about this. “Can it be…”
Before she could finish her words, the nanny who had come back from grocery shopping had interrupted her. “Ace, Professor Lu!”
Jin Xiangdong and Lu Jia’er had to break up their conversation. They smiled at the nanny.
The two pretended as if nothing was going on. They held hands as they went back to the house when Jin Xiangdong dropped a casual question, “Where is my dad?”
Just now, when Jin Xiangdong came back to see Lu Jia’er meeting Colin with herself in the house, he felt something was off.
“Your father went to attend a seminar held at Harvard University. He says he will be back in the evening.” Lu Jia’er answered.
Jin Xiangdong nodded. “How come you smell like disinfectant?” Lu Jia’er wondered.
Jin Xiangdong just remembered that he did not have time to take a shower after he came back from the lab. She must have smelled it when she was in his embrace. He did not lie to her. “I went to my sister’s biological research center this morning!”
Lu Jia’er was surprised. Jin Xiangdong smiled at her. “I’ll go upstairs and take a shower.”
Lu Jia’er followed him. As soon as she entered the bedroom, she put forward her next question, “What were you doing at your sister’s biological research center?”
Jin Xiangdong answered as he unbuttoned his shirt, “I was having a check-up.”
“Check-up?” Lu Jia’er stepped in front of him. “Shouldn’t you go to a hospital for that?”
“Don’t you remember how unique my body is?” Jin Xiangdong replied with a smile.
“That is to say, the research team to take care of you is your sister,” Lu Jia’er stated.
“So to speak.” Jin Xiangdong took off his shirt and his strong and muscular chest was revealed to her.
Lu Jia’er took his shirt from him and stared at him. “Your answer doesn’t sound very confident.”
Jin Xiangdong gazed into her eyes as well. “The accomplishments my sister has achieved in the field of biology are beyond doubt. But, do you find her ability scary as she is the one who managed to make me so special?”
“So that is what you were worried about. That being said, if I were a normal person, I probably would find that a bit scary. However, since I am so special myself, naturally I can accept it!” Lu Jia’er replied.
Jin Xiangdong put his arms around her slim waist. “Is it a mistake that we can accept each other’s uniqueness so readily?”
Lu Jia’er smiled at him. “If we did not accept it, what would we be like in this moment? Would I be lying underground for years and you sustaining your life relying on machines?”
