Seeing Su Shiyu’s coy smile, Daohua and Dong Yuanyao exchanged a silent glance, and then both started to giggle behind their hands.
When Su Shiyu heard their laughter, she snapped out of her reverie and looked at them uncomfortably, "What are you two laughing at?"
Daohua and Dong Yuanyao turned to look at her and broke into light laughter again.
Su Shiyu stomped her foot, feeling embarrassed, and fidgeted with her handkerchief, "Neither of you is allowed to laugh any more!"
Dong Yuanyao immediately retorted, "Shiyu, I’ve noticed you’re getting bolder by the day, now dictating whether we laugh or not." With a teasing smile, she continued, "Being betrothed does change one, it seems. With Yan Wenkai protecting you, you’ve got quite the backbone now."
Hearing this, Su Shiyu’s face turned crimson, and she stood up to go hit Dong Yuanyao.
Dong Yuanyao hastily pulled Daohua to her side, dodging and laughing, "Yiyi, you better discipline your future sister-in-law; she’s too fierce."
Su Shiyu grew more agitated, "Dong Yuanyao, stop talking nonsense, I’ll teach you a lesson today."
Daohua gave a resigned look at the playfighting pair, reminding them, "You two, calm down a bit, we’re in a carriage, after all."
No sooner had she finished speaking than there was a knock at the carriage window, followed by Yan Wenkai’s smiling face as he pulled back the curtain.
Looking at the three of them in a tussle inside, Yan Wenkai asked with a smile, "What are you all doing?" Then, glancing at Su Shiyu, he said to Daohua and Dong Yuanyao with a spin.

Seeing Su Shiyu glaring shyly at him, Yan Wenkai grinned and reached into the carriage, stuffing a bag of wild fruits into her arms, "This is from Sun Changze. I tasted one, and it was pretty sweet, so I brought some for you."
After saying this, he cheerfully let the curtain fall.
Dong Yuanyao glanced at the wild fruits in Su Shiyu’s arms and hesitated for a moment before lifting the curtain to look outside. Quickly, she spotted Sun Changze at a nearby fork in the road.
When Sun Changze saw Dong Yuanyao, his face instantly beamed with a brilliant smile. He almost reached out to wave at her, but seeing the crowd, he held back.
Dong Yuanyao looked at Sun Changze for a moment before quickly dropping the curtain again.
Daohua took a wild fruit and bit into it, "Hmm, it is quite sweet indeed."
Su Shiyu also tried one and exclaimed with delight, "I didn’t expect wild fruits to taste this good, Sun Changze is really thoughtful."
While saying this, she passed one to Dong Yuanyao.
"Yuanyao, do you want to try it?"
Dong Yuanyao took the fruit but didn’t eat it right away, instead caressing it thoughtfully.
These fruits grew on cliffs next to a waterfall, which she had said she wanted to try before. Sun Changze had vowed to pick them immediately but was interrupted by the attack from men in black.
She hadn’t expected he would actually go pick them!
Dong Yuanyao lowered her head to taste the fruit. Hmm, it was indeed sweet, not just in her mouth, but also sweetening her heart.
"Shiyu, I want some more," she said.
Su Shiyu nodded with a smile, grabbing a few more fruits for her, then turned to Daohua.
Daohua shook her head, "I don’t need any more."
Su Shiyu, "The fruits are quite tasty, don’t you want some more?"
Daohua, "I fear I can’t digest them well. You and Yuanyao can share."
This wasn’t about eating fruits at all but about digesting their brother’s and Sun Changze’s good intentions.
