Mrs. An looked utterly bewildered.
Mrs. Zhang, the oldest daughter-in-law, kept on saying that Su Yunjin wanted to embezzle the Gu Family’s money. She didn’t clarify her accusation yet had gathered the entire Gu Family to confront Su Yunjin and Gu Ya in their room.
“Oldest daughter-in-law, make yourself clear. What money does the third daughter-in-law want to embezzle? Why can’t I understand what you’re talking about?”
The fourth daughter-in-law, Mrs. Han spoke in a strange tone, “Mother, I told you that third sister-in-law was untrustworthy! You didn’t believe me. Look at the evidence the oldest sister-in-law has found! Our Gu Family is already so poor, and yet the third sister-in-law still wants to embezzle the Gu Family’s silver, tsk, that’s just shameless.”
People like Su Yunjin, Mrs. Han thought she should have drowned when she fell into the water back then!
It would have spared them from her current troublemaking!
“Fourth sister-in-law, don’t talk nonsense!” Gu Ya’s face darkened, and his tone carried a hint of anger, making Mrs. Han inexplicably feel a bit guilty. But then she thought about it, Su Yunjin was the one wanting to embezzle the Gu Family’s money, so she was the one in the wrong; what’s the problem with her saying a few words? “What shameless thing have I done?” Su Yunjin asked coldly as she looked at Mrs. Han, “You say I stole the Gu Family’s money and embezzled the Gu Family’s silver, which eye of yours saw that? Also, do you know how much money from the Gu Family I’ve supposedly stolen?”
Su Yunjin’s series of questions left Mrs. Han tongue-tied. In fact, Mrs. Han didn’t know anything. She accused Su Yunjin of stealing just based on Mrs. Zhang’s words and had convinced herself of it. “I—!” Mrs. Han was at a loss for words, but Mrs. Zhang continued, “I know! It was a total of one tael of silver with some extra change.”
“Yes, it was just over one tael of silver,” Mrs. Han declared confidently.
Su Yunjin looked at Mrs. Zhang and Mrs. Han, feeling that when it came to shamelessness, these two were unparalleled. The Gu Family’s silver was all managed by Mrs. An. Now that the Gu Family was impoverished, Mrs. An didn’t even have a single tael of silver in her possession. How could Su Yunjin possibly have stolen that much money from her?
Mrs. An was even more puzzled, “Eldest daughter-in-law, third daughter-in-law, what exactly is going on here?”
“Mother, it’s ,” Gu Ya explained to his mother and everyone present. “Just now, Yunjin’s eldest brother and second sister came to see Yunjin. Her parents and her eldest brother had gathered and borrowed over one tael of silver to get Yunjin a doctor for her treatment.”
Mrs. An understood, “So, the silver that Yunjin has was given by her eldest brother and second sister?”
Mrs. An immediately looked at Mrs. Zhang and Mrs. Han, “Eldest daughter-in-law, fourth daughter-in-law, the money was given by Yunjin’s family. How can you claim it was stolen by Yunjin?”
“Even if it wasn’t stolen, since our Gu Family hasn’t divided the assets, the money in the third daughter-in-law’s hands should be turned over for everyone’s use,” Mrs. Zhang said as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
That one tael of silver and the extra change!

Mrs. Han also said, “Mother, the eldest sister-in-law is right. Even if that money was from the third sister-in-law’s family, she should still hand it over to you. Why should she be allowed to keep it all to herself?”
Now that the Gu Family was struggling to make ends meet, if they could have just over one tael more silver to help out······?
Even though Mrs. An felt it was somewhat inappropriate, she still looked at Su Yunjin and began to speak, “Third daughter-in-law, about that silver—”
