Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Sneer
Mrs. Zhang grabbed a big piece of pig blood with her chopsticks and sent it straight into her mouth. Since Mrs. Zhang had eaten, Mrs. Han naturally wouldn’t fall behind; she immediately followed suit, grabbing a large piece of pig blood for her bowl as well.
After tasting and finding it delicious, both Mrs. Zhang and Mrs. Han busily served more to their husbands and children. In the end, the two of them, who initially refused to eat, ended up consuming the most.
Nearly half of the pig blood on the table had gone into their stomachs, and after finishing, they even belched satisfyingly and complained that Su Yunjin hadn’t cooked enough.
“Third sister-in-law, isn’t there still half a basin of pig blood left in the kitchen? Why didn’t you cook it all together?”

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Chu also felt that taking medicine was more important for Su Yunjin. “Third sister-in-law, your medication is more important; you should listen to third brother and go take your medicine first.”
After thinking it over, Su Yunjin nodded, “Fifth brother’s wife, then I’ll go take my medicine now.”
“Mm! Third sister-in-law, go ahead,” Mrs. Chu said, smiling, allowing Su Yunjin to leave for her medicine.
Su Yunjin was about to head to the kitchen to get her medicine, but Gu Ya stopped her, saying he would go. Without arguing with Gu Ya, she went straight back to her room and let Gu Ya go to the kitchen alone.
Soon, Gu Ya returned, carrying a bowl of medicine. Knowing the medicine would be bitter, Gu Ya handed it to Su Yunjin, who, wanting to minimize her suffering, gritted her teeth and finished the medicine in one go.
“Yun lady, is it very bitter?” Gu Ya asked.
Su Yunjin gave Gu Ya a look and tightly furrowed her brow, “Why don’t you try it?”
Having been playfully teased by his little wife, Gu Ya didn’t argue back, but secretly planned to buy a packet of candied fruit from the market someday to sweeten her mouth when she took her medicine.
Having returned from the mountain empty-handed last time, Gu Ya planned to try his luck on the mountain again. After serving his little wife her medicine, he picked up his bow and arrows, ready to head up the mountain.
After lunch, the Gu family members went back to harvesting rice in the fields. Eldest sister-in-law, Mrs. Zhang, who was inclined to shirk work, planned to go out a bit later than the others.
As Mrs. Zhang emerged from the house, preparing to head to the fields with her sickle, she saw Gu Ya leaving the courtyard. A water bottle was tied around Gu Ya’s waist, and on his back was the bow and arrows he usually carried when hunting in the mountains.
Was Gu Ya going back to the mountains?
Mrs. Zhang watched Gu Ya’s retreating figure and sneered.
Last time Gu Ya came down from the mountain unscathed was mere luck, and she didn’t believe that Gu Ya could always be so lucky. That cripple Gu Ya, with all the jackals, wolves, tigers, and leopards in such mountainous areas.
Any random encounter could have him eaten several times over.
