Chapter 54: Chapter 54 Prey
Finally, yielding to Su Yunjin’s insistence, Gu Yan ate one of the eggs.
After finishing the egg, Su Yunjin clapped her hands, looked at Gu Yan, and said, “I’m done, let’s go. We can go to the market now.”
Still not knowing what the market in this place looked like, Su Yunjin was eager to visit it with Gu Yan, but Gu Yan replied, “No hurry, wait a moment!”
“What’s wrong? Do you have something else to do?” Su Yunjin asked.
As Gu Yan walked towards the woodshed, he said to Su Yunjin, “Follow me, I want to show you something.”

Full of suspicion, Su Yunjin followed behind Gu Yan.
Gu Yan led the way, and Su Yunjin followed. When Su Yunjin arrived at the woodshed, she found Gu Yan bending down and crawling into a pile of firewood as if searching for something.

And in his hand, he was holding an adult roe deer!

“I hunted it!” Gu Yan did not hide the fact from Su Yunjin, as he planned to sell these game animals at the market with his wife, so there was no hiding it.

Ever since Gu Yan’s leg had become lame, he had not gone hunting in the mountains again. Now that Gu Yan suddenly produced a roe deer killed by an arrow, claiming it was his catch, no wonder Su Yunjin was doubtful.
Gu Yan did not offer any further explanations to his wife and continued to crawl behind the bundles of firewood. In a short while, he came back holding two wild rabbits and three pheasants.
There were also more than a dozen wild duck eggs.
Su Yunjin looked with disbelief at the items Gu Yan had brought out. She no longer doubted what Gu Yan had just said and instead, looking at Gu Yan, she tentatively asked, “Did you go hunting in the mountains yesterday?”
There was certainty in Su Yunjin’s tone!
If the items that Gu Yan produced were not hunted by himself, Su Yunjin couldn’t think of anyone else generous enough to give Gu Yan so many things.
Last night, all the members of the Gu Family had come back for dinner, but Gu Yan had not returned for a long time. Su Yunjin had been curious where Gu Yan had gone, and now it seemed that Gu Yan had gone to the mountains behind her and the Gu Family’s back, and the game he was now presenting was what he had hunted yesterday.
