“Open it up and take a look!” Gu Ya urged Su Yunjin to see for herself.
Peeling off the outer layer of greased paper, Su Yunjin immediately caught the scent of something tempting, “Roast chicken? Is it really roast chicken?” Su Yunjin looked at the half roast chicken in her hands, her face brimming with surprise.
How could she have ever imagined Gu Ya would have a roast chicken for her?
Seeing his young wife fixated on the roast chicken in her hands, Gu Ya smiled and said, “Didn’t you say you were not full? Go ahead and eat!”
“Mm!” Su Yunjin took the roast chicken out of the greased paper and took a big bite, the meat roasted until the skin was crispy and the juices flowed with each bite, so delicious that Su Yunjin almost bit her tongue, “So delicious!”
Su Yunjin praised with a smacking of her lips.
Gu Ya watched his young wife devour the chicken with relish, like a content little kitten.
“Husband, by the way, where did you get this chicken from?” While munching on the roast chicken, Su Yunjin didn’t forget to inquire where this half chicken had come from.
This half roast chicken was given to Gu Ya by the manager of Fuyun Restaurant earlier today when he had gone to sell some game. Gu Ya had intended to save it to nourish his young wife’s health.
Now that he had taken it out, it was the perfect chance to satiate his young wife’s appetite.
When Su Yunjin asked Gu Ya where the chicken had come from, he didn’t hide anything from her and told her the truth, “Yunjin, the roast chicken was a gift from Manager Huang of Fuyun Restaurant!”
Su Yunjin thought it made sense. She had been with Gu Ya all day at the market, and she never saw him buy any roast chicken. If he had not bought any, how could there suddenly be half a chicken with Gu Ya?
Now that she had heard Gu Ya’s explanation, knowing it was a gift from the manager of the restaurant, Su Yunjin was no longer puzzled.

While the Gu Family was said to consist of hunters, in reality, Gu Ya was the only one who could actually hunt. The others hardly caught anything at all, which was also why, after Gu Ya’s leg became crippled, the other men of the Gu Family stopped going to the mountains to hunt.
