Chapter 70: Chapter 70 Disgusted to the Point of Vomiting
The man Su Yunjin had encountered the previous night was indeed Gu Changshun, the eldest son of Gu Ya’s older brother and sister-in-law, Mrs. Zhang. Last night, it was too dark for Su Yunjin to see him clearly, but this morning at breakfast, she finally got a clear look at Gu Changshun’s face.
Gu Changshun didn’t resemble his father much but definitely took after his mother, Mrs. Zhang, with a large face, thick eyebrows, a big nose, yet his skin was rather fair. Su Yunjin’s father-in-law was paralyzed, and it was usually her mother-in-law, Mrs. An, who took care of his meals personally; neither the sons nor their wives needed to help. This morning, her father-in-law had eaten very little, so Mrs. An specifically instructed Su Yunjin to beat the two eggs she had taken out and make two boiled eggs to take to her father-in-law.
Su Yunjin agreed, and after the Gu Family had gone to the fields to harvest the grain, she went to the kitchen to wash the pots, start the fire, and boiled the two eggs her mother-in-law had set aside for her father-in-law.
Making two boiled eggs didn’t require much effort, and soon, Su Yunjin had cooked the eggs, scooped them out with a spatula, and brought them to her father-in-law.
Gu Ya’s father was always a man of few words, and since his paralysis, he spoke even less. After delivering the boiled eggs, Su Yunjin didn’t talk much with him and walked out of the room.
In the courtyard, to Su Yunjin’s surprise, she saw Gu Ya’s nephew, Gu Changshun. Wasn’t he supposed to be out in the fields working?
Why had he suddenly come back?
Su Yunjin was puzzled, but Gu Changshun had already approached her, “Auntie!” he looked her up and down and, although his mouth called her “auntie,” the look in his eyes made Su Yunjin very uncomfortable.
“Hmm!” Su Yunjin responded indifferently and did not intend to continue talking to Gu Changshun in front of her. She hurriedly walked back to the house.
Watching Su Yunjin hastily leave, Gu Changshun’s eyes gleamed maliciously as he followed her, “Auntie, wait, why are you in such a hurry? I wanted to talk with you a bit more!”
Su Yunjin, walking ahead, felt Gu Changshun following her, frowned, and as she turned around, she was caught off guard and embraced fully, “Auntie, you are so beautiful. Being with my lame uncle is such a waste for you! Why don’t you follow me instead? I’m in good health, much stronger than my uncle.”
Gu Changshun had come back from cutting grain in the fields, still wearing yesterday’s clothes, unwashed. When he embraced Su Yunjin, she smelled the pungent odor of sweat and almost vomited.
Feeling nauseated, Su Yunjin forcefully pushed Gu Changshun away, “Get lost!” Lost in his embrace, Gu Changshun was taken aback by Su Yunjin’s sudden shove and stumbled backward. Not giving up, he tried again to embrace her, “Auntie, my uncle is just a cripple; what good does he do for you? Think about it carefully. If you follow me, I’ll make sure you get to enjoy the finest things in life and I’ll take great care of you!”
