They saw that the customers heading to Su Yunjin’s wine shop had all left, but what they didn’t anticipate was that those same customers would return shortly after, and moreover, the number of customers heading out to buy wine continued to grow, forming several long queues.
As business was poor for the neighboring wine shops, they observed Su Yunjin’s bustling trade with a mixture of envy and jealousy. Their fruit wine selling staff were swamped, unable to keep up with the demand.
Yet jealousy served no purpose when others’ business was thriving. Resignedly, the neighboring wine shops stopped watching over Su Yunjin’s business and returned to their own establishments to wait for customers.
Su Yunjin and her team bustled about all morning, their business was incredibly good, to a point where some customers, fearing that prices would increase the next day, decided to buy several more jars to take home.
Thus, they made a point to purchase a few extra containers.
Mrs. An helped Su Yunjin and her team with the morning chores. With Lord Gu Chengxiang at the Gu Family home, and the children Xiangxiang and Xiaoshan to tend to, Mrs. An needed to return to cook for Gu Chengxiang and look after the children as well.
As it was getting late for the midday meal, Mrs. An suggested she should return to take care of Gu Chengxiang and the children. Su Yunjin, knowing that her stepmother and the children needed Mrs. An’s care, did not detain her when she wanted to leave.
However, having come to help and been busy all morning, Su Yunjin couldn’t possibly let Mrs. An return empty-handed.
She called over Mrs. Chu and asked her sister-in-law to help sell the fruit wine for a while, as Su Yunjin led Mrs. An to the inner yard behind the shop, where there was an abundance of food in the kitchen.
Su Yunjin handed over half a basket of eggs, a piece of meat, and also shared some pastries and tea fruits with Mrs. An. She made sure Mrs. An had plenty to take home, and then gave her two taels of silver.
“Mother, please take this money. If dad or you want to buy anything, use it. Don’t hold back. If it runs out, my husband and I will continue to support you and father.”
Mrs. An reluctantly accepted the offerings and money from Su Yunjin, but Su Yunjin still insisted on giving the silver to her. After finally sending Mrs. An on her way, they realized that none of them had eaten all morning.
Su Yunjin didn’t return to the front of the shop to help sell the fruit wine but instead went to a nearby restaurant to order a table full of dishes to be delivered, as everybody deserved a meal after working all morning.
There were still customers buying wine at the shop.
They would need to eat in shifts.
As Su Yunjin and Gu Ya were the hosts, and Mrs. Chu and Gu Jianghai the guests, it was only fitting that the guests should eat first. So after ordering the food, Su Yunjin went to call Mrs. Chu and Gu Jianghai to dine.
After Mrs. Chu and Gu Jianghai had headed to the kitchen, Su Yunjin resumed her duties serving customers. Gu Ya glanced at his young wife, aware that she must be starving after a busy morning.
Since there weren’t many customers for the fruit wine at the moment, he could handle things solo. Therefore, Gu Ya called his young wife to go eat in the kitchen first.
“Yunjin, I’ve got this! You don’t need to stay either. The fifth brother and his wife have gone to eat, so you should go and eat first.”
