Gu Changshun ran away?
Su Yunjin and her husband, Gu Ya, looked at each other. Gu Ya quickly said, “Yunjin, you eat your meal inside. I’ll go out and see!” And with that, Gu Ya left. Su Yunjin did not have the time to worry about Gu Changshun at the moment—if he had run away, then so be it. As there weren’t many vegetables at home today, Mrs. An instructed to make a pot of soup with that fish for everyone. Gu Ya especially saved a bowl for Su Yunjin. When he came in and saw his wife had just finished the fish soup, he walked over and asked, “Yunjin, did you have enough to eat?”
“Of course I did!” Not only did she have enough, but the meal and dishes were particularly satisfying for Su Yunjin this evening. Wiping her mouth, she then asked Gu Ya, “Husband, was Gu Changshun caught?”
“Not found!” Gu Ya shook his head and sat down opposite his wife, saying, “I went around the village with some men, and we couldn’t find him anywhere.”
Gu Ya had hurriedly followed the people in the village to the place where Gu Changshun was supposed to be dunked in the pig cage, only to find the pig cage and the hemp rope abandoned at the riverside, but Gu Changshun was nowhere to be seen. “No need to search anymore!” Su Yunjin tidied up the bowls and chopsticks, planning to take them out, and looked confidently at Gu Ya, “Gu Changshun must have been secretly let go by your elder brother and sister-in-law.”
And given so much time had passed without finding him, Gu Changshun must have already left the Gu Family village! He wouldn’t be so foolish as to run back to the Gu Family village—that would be like asking to be caught and dunked in the pig cage again.
